The 49ers offense took the ball into Arizona's territory on 8/9 of their drives today
— Jordan Elliott (@splash_cousin) October 11, 2021
They've taken the ball into their opponents territory on 10/15 drives that Trey Lance has been under center this season
The offense has clearly moved the ball better with #5 at QB

To allow Trey to run it in, you mean?
It felt like such a bang, bang! kind of play. I think the only option they had was either try to manipulate the defender to float a pass over his head, or dive over the pylon.

Trey had an easy TD here to Mitchell. These are the type of plays where he needs to use his mobility to stress the defense with his legs but beat them with his arm. I can't count how many times Patrick Mahomes or Russell Wilson on these time of plays press the line of scrimmage to suck in the defenders, take a step or two back to buy an extra second and lob a pass over them for an easy TD.
It was fourth down.. so I don't blame him for not chancing a random dropped pass.
I do blame him for not diving for the pylon, instead of going head first into defenders. 😐

Sermon could have been used and as well as The Best FB in the NFL..

Comparable size and had bad accuracy/ mechanics his first year?
Josh Allen's gamelog as a rookie:

There was a not tiny number of Bills fans who believed that their team had drafted a bust after his rookie season.
To be fair every piece of data said he should be a bust. Its a one in a million he somehow became a pro bowl QB. I wouldn't use that to prove Lance is going to work out.
Okay then how about Lamar Jackson?

That's encouraging.

Same. I wonder how much of that is based on intangible things the fans can't see, like locker room support.
You probably can't start Lance until it's clear the season is over, and at 2-3 it isn't. Unfortunately (for this season), given the fact we don't have a dominant run game and defense, that should be in just a few more weeks with Jimmy behind center.

Allen's not the only one to have struggled as a rookie before coming on in later years. Historically its far more the norm than a guy like Herbert coming in, gunning and putting up big numbers as a rookie.
QBs who are bad for there first two seasons rarely become anything.

Where's the comparison with Jimmy though?

Trey's rookie season will start next year. And we may be looking at two losing seasons because they want to put Trey's development on the backburner.

Josh Allen was damn good the 2nd half of his 2nd season. And again, all it took was a good pair of eyeballs to see how much talent the guy had in the very beginning. Our guy matches his throwing velocity and mobility. Lot more to it than that.

Lance needs time. Fact is, year two/three is when you find out you have a franchise guy. Because those are the years film is cataloged and the QB has to adjust.
this season is going to end with a short exit in playoffs at best. Let's hope those second rounders can contribute early…. If the 49ers still have em.
