Los Angeles Chargers QB Trey Lance Thread

I wasn't expecting a lot today but all and all he did okay. He had a passer rating of 55 but if he had one TD instead of one INT his rating is over 100. He had 2 first down throws that were dropped that would have added at least 30 yards to his numbers. He actually outplayed Murray today especially when you consider the experience level. It was at least as good or better than most of the other 1st rounders from this year had in their first game.

Uh no. GB and Philly are both better than Arz who is middle of the pack and Seattle who is dead last.

I am whelmed.

Simple question: was there any rookie QB this season who had a better first start?

No.

Some people are going to look at the box score and say that the fat drunk in NE had a better start in week 1, but anyone that actually watched that game knows that isn't true.

Yes. They found a linebacker who has a strong arm and put him at qb. HE IS NOT A QB.

I'm curious, are Lawrence, Fields, Wilson and Jones all
busts in your eyes too?

Jimmy played a half against Seattle as well...we actually were worse against them than vs Green Bay.

As far as the potential of the offense, I feel like Trey's floor is Jimmy's ceiling.

I think that when you are talking about a bust you have to consider what draft capital was used. Comparatively, Lance is looking like a massive bust for what the Niners forked over for the privilege of drafting him.

With where Trey is in his development, the gameplan to be productive on offense is feature a lot of QB runs. He's going to take A LOT of punishment if we anoint him as the starter.

Pretty sure we can squeak into the playoffs with Jimmy. All our losses have been within a touchdown against the Packers, Seahawks, and Cardinals—all fellow playoff contenders. If we get in, it's a whole new ball game.

We are making our vets who are on one year deals happy, apparently.

I'm not sure how someone can be a bust after like 50 NFL snaps but okay.

It just don't see Jimmy as the difference between where we are now and contention. Kyle does because he's on the hot seat and wishes to go with what he knows. But the team he's put together on offense isn't disciplined or executing well now regardless of who we're putting out there.

So why not ride it out with the kid? He's only going to get better with more experience.
I'm deeply concerned. He doesn't read the field well, makes bad decisions, throws inaccurate passes, can't throw a spirals, doesn't run around as well as advertised. To top it off he's completely confused.

He's not worth the 100 picks they gave up. Definitely not ready.

Trey had an easy TD here to Mitchell. These are the type of plays where he needs to use his mobility to stress the defense with his legs but beat them with his arm. I can't count how many times Patrick Mahomes or Russell Wilson on these time of plays press the line of scrimmage to suck in the defenders, take a step or two back to buy an extra second and lob a pass over them for an easy TD.

This play to me was Lance thinking he can do what he did in college in the NFL. He ran over people a lot in the college and this would normally be a gimmie. Hopefully he learns that it wont work anymore.

The people even bringing up Patrick Mahomes in the same sentence as Trey during the offseason need to get their eyes/brain checked, especially our braindead local media.

Mahomes' throwing talent is in another universe compared to Trey's. It's not close.

100 percent. Josh Allen too.

Not only is Lance way less experienced than both of those players coming out, his arm talent isn't anywhere close to their level. Pure arm strength maybe... means absolutely dick.

That being said, I'm trying to be patient with him. It's not his fault our FO decision makers and Kyle lost their f'ing mind trading what they traded to move up and draft him where they did. A poor decision from almost any angle you look at it.

-Play Jimmy G and let Trey learn on bench.
-Throw Trey into the fire and live with his mistakes and hope he stays confident and improves.

Neither of those are good options for a team expecting to compete for the playoffs/Super Bowl. Jimmy G is a below average NFL starter, not factoring his durability issues. Trey clearly isn't ready.

You end up with a team that has a hole at QB, and no real immediate impact from a top pick (again)... and as the games play out, you see your roster isn't quite as good as you might have thought, and you have way less ammo to improve it.
