I get what you're saying but put yourself in Ryans' shoes. The four man pass rush was not getting it done. Playing zone is just asking for Rodgers to methodically slice up the defense. I don't know what the answer is, just saying that without a good 4 man rush against a vet MVP QB, there are no clear cut answers. My thing is not giving DAdams the attention he deserves - force ScantlingValdes or Lazard to beat you.
I don't know. I think Ryans' is doing a decent job, all things considered. I get that we lost, and people are out for blood, fueled by an alcohol-induced rage. There was no one single part of the team that failed in a big way. Different parts of the team failed at different times last night, and ultimately the team did not win the game. I think that Jimmy's two turnovers were a bigger part of the loss personally. That being said, I'm not putting the loss on him entirely.

The alternative is to play zone coverages that your young cornerback isn't ready for. Lenoir was a second late in trailing up from his Cover 2 assignment on a TD throw.
I think last season, Verrett, a veteran, had an outstanding interception against a similar playcall. Ryans is having to scheme pass coverages with inexperienced cornerbacks.

The strategy Ryans was using in the third quarter had a little more success than it did in the first half. The Packers strategy was for Rodgers either to get the ball out quickly or throw it over top in single coverage. There were a couple third down misses when Rodgers threw it over top. Ryans took a calculated risk to have Rodgers throw lower-percentage passes at the risk of giving up a big play. In the first half, Rodgers hit them. In the third quarter, Rodgers missed a couple of them.

Was it right? We lost the game, so he doesn't have that benefit of saying that. But Aaron Rodgers technically only threw 261 yards. I was surprised because it felt like he was going to have a 300, 400 yard passing day.

Agreed. Ryans forced Rodgers to make longer throws and at least there's a "hit or miss" element to that as opposed to sitting in zone allowing Rodgers to play pitch and catch. Got burned on some plays, got flagged on some plays, Rodgers missed on some plays.
This position change was my biggest worry 😑
I'm curious if Ryan is favoring a coverage in zone over others. I know Saleh eventually favored quarters. With Ryan's it seems to be going back to cover 3 but I could be wrong without all 22

Yeah, I'm very curious what coverages Ryans is in fact actually using. It feels like a lot of Man, which makes sense, given that we have inexperienced and new cornerbacks in.

Agreed. Ryans is a rookie DC and all rookies have learning to do. I think Ryans came into the season wanting to play more man coverage but after losing his best man coverage CB, he has to be open to making changes if needed.

Yup I said this would happen. Growing pains, but let's hope he puts it together fast. Saleh took a solid year and a half to understand and make in game adjustments.

Our coverage at the end of the game was terrible. Collinsworth was being mind in his commentary lol

If we don't get it together fast we will probably miss the playoffs, but I could see it taking half a season to gel.

Honestly, I was proud of the defense for most of the game. When the offense sputtered out the gate, the defense held GB to 10 points with 2 minutes left in the first half. Went into the end of the half having given up 17 points after spending a lot of time on the field. Lost two vet CBs (KWaun, Norman) and hung in there. Just brain farted in the last 30 seconds of the game playing so conservative.

Oh I 100% agree. We have massive talent on defense albeit thin in the secondary. But it took awhile to shift the d line over to counter their strategy (second half ) and then situational coverage at the end was wrong etc.

lenoir will be good but he's making rookie mistakes that a hall of famer like Rodgers will exploit for sure.

I am being practical about it and not negative. I sincerely expected lapses on defense with a rookie DC. Now he has to start all this young blood in the secondary etc. While frustrating I hope we hit lightening with Ryan's and get it figured out quickly.

I know that vs DET there was a lot of Cover3. That's the only thing I can say with confidence. Never saw all22 of PHI.

I'd rather have him slowly slice up the secondary in zone, more plays equals more chances for the offense to mess up. Rather than just watch him throw bombs to whomever having it be a catch or a PI all game.

But I do get what you're saying...damned if you do damned if you don't its a game of %

it was crazy Rogers would just look to see where Adams was and that was first read every single time lol. Like taking candy from a baby. EVERYONE knew where the ball was going. Make someone else beat you.

I don't want to see Ford dropped back into coverage ever again. Also, seemed like the MLB blitzes were all fakes to drop back. When Rodgers is back reading a book, he's going to burn you 80+% of the time.

That was f**king obnoxious. I think on the 4th down play to Adams that Moseley broke up they sent one of the LBs that was the only time I saw

And that's the choice the Defensive Coordinator makes. It's something that he's probably going to think about during film study and with Shanahan today.

Collinsworth actually did talk about the big picture strategy of making an offense drive the length of the field after we elected to punt on 4th down. In that scenario though, he argued against it though, saying Rodgers is too good of a QB. If he needs 50 yards or 80 yards to go get a TD, he can. He's not a young QB like Jalen Hurts last week, who's very inconsistent and can't sustain a long drive. This is an elite QB that just won the MVP last season. You pick your poison against him and Demeco Ryans chose to have Rodgers have boom-or-bust style throwing options--It didn't work out in the first half when Rodgers was so hot, but in the third quarter, Rodgers missed a couple of deep throws by just a little bit.
