I think Both will be great pocket passers and great QBs in the NFL. The thing about Fields is that shanahan will have to change some of his offense while Mac will be a plug and play Jimmy 2.0.

That sounds suspiciously sensible, sir. We'll have none of that on these boards!

I think it's pretty clear at this point who has "leaked" the info to create this Jones stuff, it's old man Shanahan to Schefter. Now you got to ask yourself why would he do that to his son...unless there was a reason for that.

I've been saying that since that Maiocco + Schefter pod weeks ago (strong speculation, of course).
Realistically, the basement for Mac Jones is Ken Dorsey.

If Mike Shanahan is the leaker, is he trying to sabotage his son's career?

Mac Jones can definitely be Tom Brady or Drew Breese, if Mac Jones was on an NFL team full of all pros. Maybe the 1996 DAL Cowboy team.

It took an all pro team to get our last SB win...

And we would be giving up 3 first round picks for what would be the weakest link on our team.

Why would he be sabotaging his career? Mike Shanahan essentially works for the 49ers. He reviews tape during the season, gives Shanahan feedback on game plans and helps scout players during the draft. Is he "sabotaging" him because he's not telling him to draft the guy fans want?

His value is that Shanahan knows he will be able to trust him, as he makes almost no wtf mental plays. That will allow Kyle to run his offense, which he can not do with Jimmy, and it's not more than a low percentage gamble he would be able to with Fields or Lance, and That's a high priced bet.

So he wants a system QB that can't create s**t when s**t will have to be created at some point? You do NOT spent yrs of 1st rd picks for a system QB. You can find that s**t in every single draft. You spend up for elite traits and someone that can be a top 5 player at the position. Not Kirk Cousins. You can win games with guys like that...but you need everything to go smoothly in structure all yr. You think SF is gonna have every player healthy all yr? You think every player is gonna execute every play correctly? You don't think defenses are gonna win reps?

Go spend $10M on Andy Dalton if all you're looking for is someone to run your offense in structure. You spend a 2nd rd pick (like Jimmy) for system guys that don't have high end traits. You're basically giving up yrs of top capital for avg....It would be one of the biggest reaches in NFL draft history. It would be one of the most arrogant picks in draft history...basically Kyle telling the NFL my scheme will beat every team every week no matter what. Which is seemly false especially when you're in the playoffs.

ALSO there is absolutely no reason as to why Fields can not run his offense...none.

C'mon, it's the NFL, nothing ever breaks down or goes away from a plan. My gut feeling says NFL defenses are going to eat him up. All those throwing options, time, and windows are not going to be the same. Gotta be able to create when s**t goes south.

Do you? I keep hearing that as a justification for a more mobile QB but the numbers don't back that up at all. Those who we perceive to have the most success off schedule also have the most negative plays too. And the total number of off schedule plays is so minimal at the NFL level @ < 10% (probably closer to 5% actually).

Do you have the actual stats on the off-schedule plays? That would mean the 90% of drop backs are successfully executed. Not a chance. QB doesn't have to go off script on a run play, pretty much strictly happens on passing plays. Which QB would you rather play against: Cousins, Goff or Wilson, Murray? If you say either of the first two, you're kidding yourself.

14% in the NCAA and a conservative, 10% in the NFL...per Jeff, that's about 4 plays a game and includes "QB scrambles outside of the pocket, and then again if he runs past line of scrimmage."

Whoa!!!

Yeah, if He did leak it, it's because Shefter has a way of getting information out of people and Mike did it inadvertently.

That's not what I said. If he's leaking to the media, as has been speculated, that only undermines his son.

What my gut tells me: Shannys are all in on Mac Jones; 49ers front office trying to get Shanny to reconsider Fields or Lance; Shanny likes Lance more than Fields and might be giving him more consideration.

But in the end, it'll be Mac Jones.

Agree.

Coaches are stubborn creatures. They know what they want and, right or wrong, refuse to deviate from it. It's why I throw everything Shanahan says during pressers or interviews out the window because he can say whatever he wants, but his actions speak louder than his words.

See page 1 of this thread. It's been obvious from the very first game to a bunch of us that Mac Jones is the quintessential Shanahan QB. I feel like people have spent the entire process actively looking for reasons to avoid seeing what's right in front of them. It's not what I want--not that I dislike Mac Jones. I don't. I think he's a baller. But I wanted more from the 3rd pick and still hold onto a tiny slither of hope that Shanahan drafts Fields. But I'm expecting Mac Jones. But it is what it is. Mac Jones has been Shanny's guy in my eyes from the jump, and that hasn't changed during the entire process.

Unfortunately yes. I was seriously bummed out in preseason regarding Brock Rutter. I honestly thought if Kyle has changed his colors, he'd have at least got Brock on the practice squad, but he just outright cut him. I was so when he did that. I knew then hes a pocket QB coach and unlikey to change any time soon. I also hope he just might take Fields. I like both, but I've bought NY85's Steve Young comp. Man he does look like Steve when he moves and throws.

If Kirk Cousins is the floor of Mac Jones, he has to be the number one overall pick, right?
Such a stupid take by Schrags.

Nah, Schefter goes WAY back with both the Shanahan's and Simm's families (20+ years); was part of Mike Shanahan's book and when they asked him recently who HE thought the pick would be, he literally laughed in a matter-of-fact way, like, "Duh, it's Mac Jones."

I knew at that point this s**t was real real.

I don't understand why fans take pressers that seriously. Look who he drafts and cuts. Look who he signs. What does he value in each position? I don't care about his empty words.

Show me that he has changed.

Maybe after this draft, fans will finally learn the meaning of "Actions speak louder than words"

Not necessarily. Some QBs tend be overlooked, Mahomes was not the # pick but should have been?

Actions > words

That said, he did tell fans 5 years ago why he wasn't into the athletic profiled QB.
