Todd McShay:

"I would take Trey Lance. I'm just going to be honest," McShay told Rich Eisen on Monday. "I would take Trey Lance of North Dakota State. I think that he has the highest ceiling of the other quarterbacks after the top two, but I keep hearing -- the intel I keep getting is that Mac Jones is going to be the pick."

The intel you keep getting?? What..are you a spy? So you have connections inside the 49er organization? Is their a leak?

Winning the Super Bowl next time because he won't miss the deep open throw will change your mind.

If he's Drew Brees, then I'll eat all the crow you want. I just see a bigger version of what we have now but someone who will win a game by himself.

If its definitely mac then why go through all the trouble of setting up fields and lances pro day and be as involved as they are?? I don't get it. These national guys really have no idea how tight lipped Kyle and John are huh.

I'm seriously thinking of buying what you are selling. All three can operate the po9cket, and all three (yes even Mac) can scramble and throw off schedule. It's that each of the 3 have variations of the skills needed to operate Kyle's system to make it hard in my eyes to see who is head and shoulders better than the other. I do think Mac leads in the processing category. I really believe that. I think - from a processing standpoint - the other two take a backseat to Mac. I still have it Fields>Mac (almost practically even overall) and then distant third is Lance.

I think outside of Lawrence being a #1 lock you could make an argument as to why all 4 guys should be selected next and why they shouldn't. My personal list is Jones>Fields>>>>>>Lance. The way I look at it is there are smarter people than me making the decision. So I will trust Kyle and hope for the best no matter which guy they select.

I don't have a problem with any of these QBs because like I l've said many times, this is Shanahan putting his nuts on the table, rolling the dice with his job. He's had plenty of time to research all these QBs to death so if he takes Jones then I'm expecting a Matt Ryan sort of career. If it's Fields then I think we can expect at least Dak Prescott sort of performance and if it's Lance then he sees Josh Allen 2020 sort of upside in him.

I'm the most shaky on Lance because of the limited snaps against lower competition while being in an offense that took a lot of burden off of him and didn't often ask him to win games with his arm. To me, Lance is either a Top 5 passer or he's out of the league altogether by the end of his rookie contract. I don't see much middle ground with him. I can much easier see Jones and Fields sticking around long term as average passers. You can argue that their ceiling may not be the same but they are both starting out with much higher floors.

I don't think anyone knows anything outside of the 49ers braintrust but even if you are 99% sure on who you're taking, it makes sense to pull out all the stops and do your due diligence when you have all this time before the draft. For these athletes it's just more exposure to NFL coaches and decision makers. You only have to impress one team enough to go back and look at your film and potentially change their draft plans altogether.

McShay needs to get off his fixation of Mac going #3. He was the first guy they saw - but, they've moved on to the two better prospects of Lance and Fields.
mac has a better 40 time than mahomes? lmao

Nobody knows what is going on. We don't know who they're on or who they've moved off of. We will know exactly who they like most in less than 2 weeks.

Todd McShay has zero contacts.

We got to a super bowl because everything went damn near perfect...top 5 defense and run game. 5 1st rd picks on the DL.

We need a QB that's doesn't need perfection around him to be successful. We need a QB that can run this offense AND create when that's what has to be done.

If you watch enough of Jones....you really can see a lot of stuff the 49ers have been missing for a very long time. The quick reads, the manipulating the defense with his eyes....that stuff is what we were seriously wanting with both Smith and Kap.

Jones should be in the top QB talks.

Some one had said if Jones is the Brees or Brady of the group, Fields was the Steve Young. Man i can see that....

I can really see a Steve Young in fields.

I think Jones has an advantage in ball placement, defense manipulation, and release and Fields has an advantage in footwork, velocity and mobility. Both are pretty darn accurate. When i see Fields effortlessly move around it reminds of Bill Walsh talking about the massive advantage in getting back in your drop quickly, the SOLE REASON he drafted Joe Montana.

I am glad its not my choice to make. I really like Jones the QB, I think he is the best QB....but i really REALLLLLY have character concerns with him.

Fields on the other hand is so darn likable. He is charismatic and seems like a good dude. You cant help but root for the guy, if we had to start a QB this year its jones all the way for me...but if we are sitting a guy behind Jimmy G anyway.....well...damn.... Fields really could be Steve Young 2.0.

I would probably lean Jones...but i am very happy its not my choice. I am very happy the 49ers get one of them tho.

Not too mention if some bong video, or tweet from 5 years ago etc comes out right before the draft you better have a plan C

FWIW 10 of the last 11 SB winners had top 10 D's. KC was top 5 when they won the SB in 2020 but were not in the top 10 last year.
