I'm fairly confident some team will offer him more money than the 49ers, so I don't expect Dre to return.

Who knows--maybe I'm wrong, and there's no market for Dre. Those injuries are going to scare away a lot of teams, but there's always one dumb team out there. And that's all it'll take for him to go. I think he ends up in Washington.

Back injuries? I thought his issue was his Achilles?

They are thinking like a team would. Who is gonna say, here's a four year, $70+ million dollar deal with 40 million in guarantees to Greenlaw right now? Is there even a precedent for this? It would be great for Greenlaw if someone does do it, but I don't see it.

Uh, yeah, the Niners literally did this with Kwon Alexander when they signed him to a four-year deal worth $54m w/ $27m guaranteed contract coming off a torn ACL.
Dre gonna get a check from somebody fellas

How that work out for the 49ers?

That's irrelevant to the discussion. You asked if there's precedent, and I gave you an example by your favorite team handing out a big contract to a player coming off a serious injury.

I mean the writing has been on the wall since Dre's GF spilled the beans on them leaving. The Niners probably told Dre in their exit meeting that they love him b but most likely can't pay him what other teams will in free agency and wished him good luck.

If Dre leaves, maybe push for Zack Baun?

they have him valued at 2y/19.5mil

Good or No?

When you look at Campbell at LB for us last year, that situation alone increases Greenlaw's value to this team. Unless he doesn't want to be here, I think evaluating LB's has been tough for us. We struck gold with Warner and Greenlaw, so why mess that up over a few extra dollars?

My guess is because it's not just a few extra dollars but a few extra dollars on a player coming off a couple injuries.

The difference is other teams benefited from Kwons previous performance and we paid him.
49ers have had success from Dre game while playing for a team discount.

Zach Baun about to be paid!!! He's probably been one the best LB's this year. Would love to see it happen but, I doubt it.

I'm not confident someone will offer him a more money than the Niners. They'd be taken a risk if they offered him a contract not knowing anything about his injury history.

He's been on the eagles radar before he made his comeback appearance in the home Rams game. Sounds like they will do whatever it takes to get him

It only means the 49ers are even less likely to make a big commitment. Do other teams do this? I can't see it.
