It's not that easy to just cut him, if it's true Dee may not be ready for 2021, we can't cut him, $11.6M becomes GTD on April 1, not even a Post June 1 designation helps. Like above I said if he's retiring, he should lower his base from $15.15M to $1.075M, the 49ers save $14.075M, we could agree to not go after his bonus prorations, plus he's not gonna get that $11.6M if he retires, he forfeits it. Staley did last season, his base was GTD on April 1, 2020, draft day we trade for Trent, Joe retires, he doesn't get his base salary, they ended up with an injury settlement, they ended up giving $1M.
The only other option if not healthy is another restructure, that saves around $11M, but it does make it impossible to get out of his deal pre June 1, he'd have to be designated post June 1 next years.
