We invested heavily in a dude who looks to have a chronic knee problem.

This is Nick Bosa all over again lol.

Dude plays and balls out on gameday. Who cares about everything else?

They are hoping the week off helps and it may but since this is a chronic thing he will just have to play thru it. He says he can and has been for a few years so until it progresses to the point where he can't stand it anymore he will continue to scare QB's.

As long as he's available when we meet the Patsies in this SB coming up...

We invested heavily in a RB who hasn't played a snap for us in 2 years. s**t happens, we will see!

McKinnon didn't have an injury history prior to us signing him

The truth is simple.....

it is VERY difficult to buy what Ford has.

There are only so many dudes on this planet that can do what he does.

You could give a guy 30 million, and only have him play in 2 games. If they are the RIGHT two games and it leads to a Super Bowl.... It was money well spent.

Unless the 49ers catch lighting in a bottle this year, they need Ford for the next couple post seasons.

It's a risk for sure. I hope it pays off. Even if we only get two good years out of him, I suppose it was worth the gamble. Praying for good health

No, bc its just pain, he can manage that. Short bursts of speed or cutting isnt keeping his perfomance down. If he had to jump a lot, thats where it would be an issue.

For how long? That's the point im making.

How is this Nick Bosa? Does Bosa have chronic knee inflammation?

For as long as he wants to make $15m a year?

I concur LV
Fords knee is a pain management issue that he has dealt with throughout his career. It is not a structural issue, as has been discussed ad nauseam.
Looking for something to worry about. I'd make the same trade again. Not only has Dee Ford been lights out, but he has given us a blueprint of what our D line + defense could be. I will forever want that perfect mix of speed edge rusher and technician as the other edge rusher, with two monsters in the middle.

This.

The structural elements of the knee joint are the cruciate and collateral ligaments, the articular cartilage and meniscus, none of which are compromised according to any reporting I've seen.

An inflamed quad tendon is very painful, I'm sure, but it is not a structural issue, and should be highly responsive to corticosteroids or NSAIDs.

dee himself said it has gotten worse and has went to a new level. again.. we just hope he can manage it this year and play on sundays... because no matter what people think of other guys... if ford misses games teams can focus on two guys and not three.. part of me also wonders if ford and the niners and his doc will set down after the year and look a this. hope he is back but it would not shock me if we are in the market looking for a pass rusher in the draft next year or free agency
From an ESPN article about the biggest flaw on the Chiefs...

What's more concerning about the Chiefs, though, is that the offseason changes they made to try to improve their pass defense haven't really taken. After hiring Steve Spagnuolo to replace Bob Sutton, the Chiefs overhauled their secondary, adding three new starters in cornerback Bashaud Breeland, safety Tyrann Mathieu and rookie safety Juan Thornhill. The biggest shift, though, was up front, where they acquired Frank Clark and Alex Okafor to replace Dee Ford and Justin Houston on the edge. Both Clark and Okafor are solid against the run, but the Chiefs made those moves to try to improve their pass rush.

So far, the pass rush is much worse. Kansas City pressured opposing quarterbacks on 31.1% of dropbacks last season, the seventh-highest rate in football. This season, that same pressure rate has fallen all the way to 23.8%, which is just ahead of the Falcons at 25th in the NFL. Kansas City's sack rate hasn't fallen quite as precipitously, but quarterbacks have had an easier time against the Chiefs than they did a year ago.

So, maybe you experts who were saying we got hosed on the Ford deal can quit the and and the and enjoy the benefits of having a for real pass rush.
