It's an inflammatory pain condition. That's why God made cortisone.

It does not affect joint stability, should not be performance limiting (obviously, given his performance to date), and whatever nominal elevation in relative injury risk his condition might promote is overshadowed by the absolute injury risk of being a professional football player.

Hey, that's Dr.Webzone M.D. to you mister, he didn't spend ten minutes on a website to NOT be called doctor...

If Blair and AA keep balling out, we got all the rush we need (and all we can afford lol)

Like I said, Ford's knee is undoubtably painful, but there's no reason to believe the joint isn't stable. It's tendonitis, not Ligamentitis

All you really need, in my opinion, for this particular defense to work is a good Edge rusher and a very capable DT. That DT doesn't have to be hall of fame, just good solid DT, maybe even all pro. But that Edge rusher *has* to be a Hall of Fame level edge rusher - or this defense doesn't work. It goes back to the Seifert/Carroll 3-4 where the three DLinemen were big huge behemoths that were two gappers, and then you had an Elephant/Leo that was an elite pass rusher. (Dean/Haley) both are in the Hall of fame.

P.S. you also need good solid DB's and good fast linebackers too. But that all important Elephant/Leo *has* to be elite. That's why a good portion of our fan base want draft capital devoted to the edge rusher year in and year out to up our chances on getting that all important hall of fame edge rusher. (hopefully that's Bosa) B O S A

P.P.S. I'll leave the medical stuff to our resident WebMD guy.

He is most definitely a difference maker.

At least Dee is man enough to admit it now so nobody gives him an excuse.

Agree. Most is not like him anymore, truly turning into a pansy ass league. We got people missing time from toes and fingers etc..

I don't know how many articles he's written about it. But this issue is a pretty big deal when you consider his role, his contract and the chronic nature of the injury. It's not like he's writing about a broken finger ad nauseam.

As someone who has it........

It is something that flares up in response to strain. I have gone decades with out triggering it. I get to throwing a footballs and it will return. It will last a few hours and disappear again for another decade or until i trigger it again.

Lets not act like the guy is in constant agony( agony is a good word for it....it sucks). He could go an entire game with out triggering a flare up. Give him a few hours rest and some ICE and it will go away. He very well might have long periods of times were he is not even medicated due to the condition, Once you introduce anti-inflammatories its a whole new ball game.

In my case.......drills triggered it much more often then actual games. Baseball much more then football... In my 20s Judo was much worse then football or baseball. I knew when i started to feel it, i was going to be miserable in a few hours...but seldom did it keep me from rolling. I am certain a guy getting paid millions of dollars with access to the best doctors and medical supplies will be just fine.....

^^this.

It'll bother him off and on all year, and he may opt to get scoped in the offseason. He alluded to this possibility in a recent interview before concluding:

"This is nothing that will hinder me this year. I've been through worse."

Barring acute injury (e.g. quad tendon rupture, which is an uncommon injury in any context), he'll be fine. The "ticking time bomb" rhetoric is overstated, as I keep trying to explain, and can probably cease.
Anyhow, I'm not new. I've lingered for years, rarely posting. Just thought I'd shed some light on something I happen to be familiar with since several of you seem disproportionately concerned about one of our key acquisitions.

I apologize for any apparent condescension these last few posts—it's frustrating to keep repeating myself about something fairly straight forward. But maybe I'm just getting trolled. Poe's Law is a thing.

Knee tendinitis, is that jumper's knee? If it is, I've had it most of life through track, volleyball, football, hell it flares up even running the bases - and it definitely can be performance limiting, although not always.

Maybe? Can't say I'm familiar with jumper's knee.

There's a lot of eponyms and euphemisms out there, like Radial head subluxation is apparently called "nurse maid's elbow."

But yeah, so a pain limitation is different. Analgesics resolve a pain limitation, but the joint isn't compromised as it might be in a cruciate or collateral ligament injury.
Oh, SLJ disease (I had to look up jumpers knee lol). Yeah man that's unfortunate, I've heard it's super uncomfortable.

I don't think we give enough credit to this guy with him helping our dline and rookie bosa getting production.

After some plays you can tell he is favoring that leg.
Pain or not, just watch Dee in a 3 pt ....with each call of the count the guy is up on his toes and fingers, just shaking, praying for the snap. When he does hear it he goes like a rocket and gets home, frequently meeting his bud from the other side colliding with the QB, or knocking the ball loose, TFL or sack...and he has had his QB hits too.

there can't be many QBs out there looking forward to Buck up the center, Arik again right with him(but this time looking for the qB who is usually right in front of him), Dee from R and Nick from L . And sometimes they switch. The unapppreciated thing is we also got Ron Blair to give one or the other of our DEs a blow, which is a Godsend.

DTs get a blow almost every two plays and DJ Jones doesnt' give up anything. When in, Julian looked good inside, and Solly has had his snaps cut. I wish they weren't all inside but that isnt the case now. I made a point of having 8 DTs and 2 DEs, but Blair has to be counted now as good DE.

As for DTs, they face the crush and rotating them in has been huge for the DL. Maybe we have too many, maybe not. But Blair is definitely DE now.. Just think for a moment about those OLs who have to face the starting DL , and then see the DTs rotated in, fresh as ever ...it has to psych out the OLs after a while. And they slow down as we keep going. Have to admit i am coming around to having more DLs than i would have liked...but it sure works when you got talent like Nick and Dee on the outisde.
