But i do agree with you that there is a mental component to injuries. The guys like Steve, Joe, and Jerry seem to stay relatively healthy while others seem to always be rehabbing. There's a certain toughness that goes with being a hall of fame player. John Lynch is an example of a tough guy who didnt have a lot of injuries in the latter half of his career.

He gets his 6 or 7 run plays - a lot of them outside away from the scrum - and if that's his RB workload, he's only getting 3 or 4 passes.
