It's officially day 50 of me having to tell people to have patience with these young players. He's got 11 career starts and people want to dump him or think he's actually a trade prospect? come on meow. Kid ha 17 targets this yr, kinda hard to put up awesome stats with SF not throwing the ball overall.
This isn't fantasy football, the front office and coaching staff have time/capital/money invested into him.
I get it. Stating early concerns that have come true thus far sucks both ways. I get tagged with having a narrative against him and he's not shining. But I guess having a narrative is different to me...to me that means you aren't objective and have something for or against him before evidence supports a reason to have concerns or likes.
The funny thing here is, IMHO, this is more about ShanaLynch than anything. Going and getting Sanders validates your point about them moving from rebuild mode to compete now mode. Giving up 2nd-4th round drafts picks validates that. Depth validates that. Record validates that. The FO moving on quickly from players validates that. Willing to literally, pay for their mistakes in FA, validates that.
That's why I'm surprised with the your patience stance in the same token. Kyle might just be done with players like Pettis and Goodwin esp. now that he's got his man and he's worked with them every day they've been here.

PS: Witherspoon is a poor example. Pettis is a player Kyle is working with every single day and was on him 24/7 even in the off season, even during breaks. If anyone knows if he's got it, it's Kyle. Witherspoon was a player the GM/HC had lots of concerns about quality coaching and made a change and now all our secondary players have improved. The FO also did nothing to replace Witherspoon. Kyle drafted Hurd and Deebo, two plays polar opposite of Pettis and then brought in Sanders, a veteran version of Pettis.

I'm actually not. Pettis said in an interview Kyle was texting him during the bye week too to stay on him. LOL.

Man this gets twisted. Armstead and Ward are two players, literally, Saleh and the coaching staff were in LOVE with. They believed in them and were never in the dog house
Do you get that same sense with Kyle and Pettis? Be honest.

Originally posted by 9ers4eva:If Kyle is going to trade up for a player and give him less than 3 years to prove himself he is way too impatient. 3 years is the minimum any player drafted on day 1 or 2 should be given. Trading Pettis at his lowest value point is absolutely an asinine idea.
Garnett was in the doghouse and they let him stay on IR an entire year then sat around on the bench for another year before they decided to release him. Why didn't they cut him year 1 when his knee was bad? He wasn't even their guy.

You didn't answer my question.
I do agree with the 3 year principle but if you've got a playoff team AND the player isn't showing the drive, will or dedication to become what you drafted him to be, why wait 3 years? Garnett is a good example...Kyle soured on him too pretty quickly and poof, gone. Bourne was also in the dog house but worked his ass off and this off season, went to bat for him and kept him despite the big drops in pre season. He retained him.

Getting Sanders just helps the team right now. They need a good vet WR when they're 6-0, they wouldn't have done it if they were 2-4 IMO...Even before the season started they were in on OBJ. IMO I never thought Pettis was a true WR#1 (not sure if you or others were really thinking that). He can separate, he does have speed, he's actually a damn good blocker as well. We've seen him make catches in traffic this yr. You need to have plenty of good WRs.
Sure I have patience for a kid that they drafted early. It's not the same as Williams who went at pick 121. There hasn't been a ton of opportunity for him or really any of the other WRs so far this season. So no, I'm not so quick to move off a young player with 17 total targets this yr.
