See?!?!. That what I am saying it. I read the ESPN give the 49ers grade for F because McKinnon got 7.5 millions but his stats were not great.

so I have trust Shanahan. He should get 1,200 to 1,500 Yards and plus playing at Punt Return because he got 7.5 millions. $$$$$

There are a lot of contract breakdowns out there. You're right in that people focus too much of contract totals and too little on contract specifics. Per usual, it's a reasonable team-friendly deal.

Any clips of this guy pass blocking? PFF rated him as a good pass blocker. I'm assuming that for RBs it's about blitz pickup.

I didn't know much about Jerick McKinnon until we signed him, seems like a complete back that can turn out to be a top RB in the NFL.

Speed, catching ability, and willing blocker! This may be a huge addition!

Not sure why some are freak'n out by the dude's contract. It's a front loaded contract that took advantage of the cap room that they have now and 2019. The last 2 years of the contract, he's getting 'peanuts' and low cap hit.

The Jets gave him about the same money but he choose the Niners. Ohz nohz! Overpaidz!

I'm excited for him. I think he's being paid based on what Shananhan expects him to be not what he has been. We haven't had his type of speed and pass catching ability at RB since...I don't even know when.

I love how people automatically assume the 49ers overpaid for anyone. I very sure McKinnon would have had a similar contract elsewhere. Keep in mind, people think the 49ers underpaid Sherman, and the Seahawks turned that deal down when given the option.

McKinnon reminds me a LOT of Sproles(sp)... and that guy hurt a lot of teams and helped Brees quite a bit.

About the argument "they can draft a RB to do the same thing". Rarely do I read about RB prospects and their ability to identify and pick up blitzes. It's almost always about their running/catching ability as if that's the only things they have to do. One reason a RB gets his snaps cut is because they are a liability in pass pro. Obviously Jet wasn't brought in just because he can pass block, but it's an aspect of his game that will allow coaches to be comfortable playing him. Hyde was not good at this last season.
