Tevin Coleman and Devonta Freeman did just fine in short yardage for Kyle.

Did they? They were in the middle of the pack in short yardage, dropping to the bottom of the league last season.

In the SB when NE took away the outside zone and dared them to run it up the middle, they couldn't.

I hope Kyle is planning on a little more balance with this group, because right now they have none.

Where are you getting that from?

And last season doesn't matter, as Kyle was not there.

It's a concern but I'll take the trade off of being one of the best passing attacks of all time though. And if Shanny called a kneel down he'd have a ring. Yards didn't matter as long as if it wasn't negative 8 and negative 10.

A yard, two yards, three, identifying the right hole to go through to turn a two yard gain into twenty.

There's a skill to running the football, especially inside. If all you needed was to be big, there are dozens of big bodied RB stiffs coming out of college each year that could be signed off the street for pennies on the dollar.

If 2-3 yards the RBs can handle the short yardage. If they need 1 yard Juice can handle that. It's not complicated at 1 yard. If they need 2-3 yards Kyle can be creative, he doesn't have a propensity to just run it with his RB even if they are capable. I see Breida very capable of running inside or outside to get 2-3 yards. I can see McKinnon doing the same.
Don't bank on big numbers for offensive players who play in Kyle's offense. If I am correct, only Julio Jones had great stats because who isn't going to get the ball to a player like Julio.

OK. Freeman did well, Coleman not so much.

According to splits from pro-football-reference.com...

2015: Freeman - 15 carries, 12 first downs, 80% success rate
2016: Freeman - 9 carries, 7 first downs, 78% success rate

Usually size matter in short yardage. Not sure if it applies with these 2 guys. I don't watch them enough to know.

You actually want smaller but powerful guys to get 2-3 yard, because the holes are small and almost none existent. Smaller guys can lean, find, and fit into the small holes, keeping their legs churning while doing that. Gore was so good for the same reason. Bigger, taller guys usually have problem with that. Their size can work against that short yardage situation.

Freeman had 1,000 yards and 11 TDs in 2016.

Matt Ryan had 4900 yards and 38 TDs.
Not worried about the RB situation. Super deep draft and a ton of backs who will compete with Williams for that inside-out game. Kyle will run Breida and McKinnon inside as well. The key is keeping the defense guessing and wearing them out by stretching them.

With Richburg now at C and Hyde gone, we're about to see a totally different running game this year. If Kyle gets some real G's, look out.
McKinnon will playing at Punt Return and get score for us?! He got 7.5 millions. He should playing at Punt Return.

Someone had posted this earlier in this thread. Is it accurate?

When the 2014 and 2015 Minnesota offenses were 14th and 13th, respectively, in run-blocking grades, McKinnon averaged 4.8 and 5.1 yards per carry. When they were 23rd and 28th in 2016 and 2017, respectively, McKinnon's efficiency fell to 3.4 and 3.8 yards per carry.

Looking at PFF's rushing breakdown, MN ran only 36 power runs with a 3.2 average ypc, 102 gap runs for 4.5, 187 IZ for 3.7 and 107 OZ for 4.7.

That's an added bonus. He and Boldin Jr. on kick offs could be fun!
