I agree. The defense has already improved drastically from last year. and it will look even better once the offense has more success. Things are building nicely, and a big coaching change can also make things take a step back.

Agreed. I might be alone but considering all the players we lost by injuries or being released, I think Saleh did great for a first year DC. I would give him at least next year as well to see what he can do with all the guys coming back, a year of experience under his belt and more pieces added to a young and promising defense

I like Saleh and think he is an up and coming coach. But Shanahan didn't have much to pick from. A veteran DC would have been nice.
Given we have Saleh, is it possible to keep him as a DC but have a veteran 'advisor' he can lean on? Any precedence for this?

Lynch is the advisor Dont underestimate the connects Lynchahan have either with guys not currently employed by the NFL

Agreed. You can bet Lynch is up in boot giving a eye from the sky perspective to Saleh on the sideline.

Yeah I could see Saleh being a top defensive coordinator. Hopefully that's on pace with the offense though because we're getting better there fast imo.
How did he play on Sunday? Seems like he got a few tackles. Is he going to be a good fit for our team?

Makes Mitchell and the remaining 3 years of his deal expendable next offseason.

Doe he play the same position as Mitchell?

DT no? With SThomas potentially moving inside in the future and the potential we're seeing from DJ Jones I don't see why we'd keep a 31 year old NT who's been up and down next year.

Mitchell is the run stuffer who is your prototypical NT. Day and D.J. are more undersized penetrators from the middle but we still need Mitchell in base downs. That's why DJ is inactive now because Day essentially took over his role.

Oh I'm all for improving if mitchell but I don't see Day as that

He doesn't even play the same position as Mitchell and I don't think Earl Mitchell is going anywhere. He has given us exactly what we signed him for and is a solid football player. I can see D.J Jones replacing him in 2019.
Solid, scrappy DT. I think he's going to be a heck of a backup for us

Were gonna have great depth and competition next year. 90 man competition gonna be ferocious after FA and draft class. Good problem to have hopefully.

I really want to see more of this kid. So freaking athletic, so quick. Dude is a fantastic fit in the scheme as a penetrating DT.

And meanwhile, Carradine is in street clothes.
IIRC he played a couple of snaps at the 1 tech next to Buck yesterday on base. He backs up both Buck and Mitchell. So he's capable of playing the NT position if have to. Mitchell has been graded pretty poor on stopping the run this season, not doing what he was signed to do, stuffing the run.
