Was hoping he could go to Jacksonville and Eli go to Cleveland.

I was thinking about this.

We have 110 million in cap space so we will be bringing in a few quality starters. I would say at least 3. I suspect we will sign a center, corner and a tackle. We may resign our own and Hyde, Reid and Fusco deserve to be brought back.

This team was close. We lost What, 5 games by 3 points or less? I think with better QB play early on and if we didn't lead the league in players on IR this team would have 6 wins by now.

Which leads me to drafting a QB. Let's say we are picking at 4 or 5.

The Browns will do what the Browns do and pass on a QB at 1 for Saquon Barkley. The Giants will take Sam Darnold at 2. Denver takes Mason R[u]udolph at 3. So we are sitting at 4. There is still Lamar Jackson and Josh Rosen sitting there. I want nothing to-do with a mobile QB like Jackson. Shades of RG3, Kaepernick but I would be hard pressed to not take Rosen if we didn't get a trade that blows our socks off.

Do what the Pack did with Rodgers. Let him sit and learn. Garrapolo isn't signed long term. We will have 2 years of using the franchise tag if we want.

What if he gets hurt? What if he doesn't sign long term?

Not many times does a team have the chance to draft a franchise QB. Next year is not a great year for QB's. He would be a very valuable trade chip if Jimmy G plays well.

So our options are:

1- Take a QB.
2- Trade the pick.
3- Take a guy like Roquan Smith or Courtland Sutton.

That is never gonna happen. That would be a terrible waste of resources and a great way to completely piss off Garoppolo and his agent.

The whole notion is completely out of the realm of possibility. You're not using your top two draft picks on QBs when your OL is a disaster and you have so many other holes on the roster all in the hope that maybe someday you could get an equivalent draft pick back.

If they draft a QB it is going to be late in the draft.

Yes. We have our back up qb. And pretty good he looked, too.

IDK i would use the word "good"

The Vikings shouldn't be in any of those 3 categories.

But for real, I'm thinking the Browns (if they want a QB AND Barkley), Broncos, and Jets are the most-likely trade partners in this scenario. Cardinals, too. They should be in the "desperate" category.

Yep. I think you can add Bills as well. They clearly want to dump Tyrod but simply have no one to take his place.

Giants and Steelers probably need a QB sooner than later too; I expect one or both of Ben and Eli to retire this off-season. So they're much closer to "desperate" than the Chargers or Pats or Ravens.

I'd sort it like this:
Desperate = Browns, Broncos, Bills, Jags, Jets, Cardinals, Giants (probably), Steelers (probably)
Luxury pick = Ravens, Bengals, Chargers, Pats, Vikes
Unknown? = Redskins, Saints

You said the same thing about Wentz a year ago. By general rookie standards, Beathard showed plenty to make people believe that he can be a solid to good backup QB at minimum.

Yeah With Darnold, Rosen, Jackson, Rudolph and Mayfield all possibly being 1st round picks the niners should have no problem find a trade partner, possibly twice if they want bc we all kno how teams value QBs and they get drafted way higher then they should..I personally wouldn't want to trade out of the top 10..look for a trade moving from 2 to 10 and receive a 1st next year and a 2nd this year then take Nelson at 10..

Co-signed on this. Make the move for draft capital and a plug-and-play stud on the interior of the o-line.

Absolutely. But I'm just as interested in OL, CB, and an LB running-mate for Reubs.

We'll probably fill two of those positions with FA. But that means we should spend at least one Day 1-2 pick on 3 of those 5 positions.

I'm so hyped for the off-season. This feels like a fairy-tale rebuild right now. Here's hoping our pick ends up a target for the myriad QB-hungry teams.

We took defensive linemen 3 years in a row speaking of terrible use of resources.

Jimmy G isn't signed long term. We would be covering ourselves incase he leaves or isn't the chosen one.

Our Oline will be much improved with better QB play and a free agent starter.

I'm not saying we will do it but it's no different than the Pack taking Rodgers and letting him sit for 3 years.

Word. C.J. may be below, say, Hundley on that list, but Hundley is surrounded by a Super Bowl caliber offense (granted one very reliant on the QB position). And we all know what C.J. was surrounded with. And C.J. is the only rookie save DeShone. Plus, we've seen that he has leadership qualities the team rallies behind. I have zero qualms about C.J. as a backup going forward.

Its significantly different. The Packers were coming off a playoff appearance and had a 36 year old QB. They took a guy who many had expected to go Top 5 in the late 1st round.

The two situations are absolutely nothing alike. The 49ers are a long way from the playoffs and have a ton of holes on their roster. Garoppolo is 10 years younger than Favre was.

That would actually be a great fit. Jacksonville is an elite Run-and-D team like KC was supposed to be. But KC can't defend anybody anymore. Alex would make them an AFC Championship contender immediately.

And? Carson Wentz wasn't good as a rookie. After the 3-0 start he threw 11 TDs and 14 INTs with a 74.3 QB rating (Philly lost 9 of there last 13 games). Just like RIGHT NOW CJ Beathard isn't good. I cant predict the future. I can just go off of what has happened. Which is Beathard has not been good.

Arizona Cardinals fans think they can wait until pick #9 or #10 to get their guy. lol

Nothing inspires confidence like letting the NFL pick through top QB prospects and you take the remnants as your franchise.

Any QB who will go in the 1st round will go in the top 10. It's not about BPA. The position is just too valuable. And too many teams need one.
