After the San Francisco 49ers' Monday night game, head coach Kyle Shanahan didn't hold his usual day-after conference call to provide injury updates. His Wednesday press conference offered the first chance to learn more about several injured players.
Following Monday night's game, Shanahan revealed that wide receiver Mike Evans is dealing with Achilles tendinitis, which forced him to exit the contest in the second quarter.
On Tuesday, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that the 49ers expect to manage Evans' Achilles tendinitis for much of the season.
"It is Achilles tendinitis that Mike Evans is essentially dealing with, which is something he's going to continue to deal with," Rapoport said. "It is something that he's going to have to manage for the better part of the season."
Shanahan was asked whether the team expects to manage Evans' condition throughout the season.
"We had to manage it last week, and we'll manage it this week," Shanahan said. "So, we'll see how the rest of the year goes."
Evans will not participate in Wednesday's practice.
Nick Bosa's injury status
Shanahan also provided an update on defensive end Nick Bosa, who has missed the last four games with a calf injury suffered ahead of Week 3.
"No, can't go today, but hoping he'll be back tomorrow," Shanahan said.
Bosa's potential return to practice would be an encouraging development for the 49ers as they prepare for Sunday's matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.
Dre Greenlaw returns to practice
Linebacker Dre Greenlaw has completed his one-game suspension and is expected to participate in Wednesday's lighter-than-usual practice.
"Yeah, Greenwall will go today," Shanahan said. "Our team's doing a walkthrough, just being removed from the Monday night game, and just where we're at, just physically."
Christian Kirk continues to ramp up in practice
The 49ers opened wide receiver Christian Kirk's practice window last week but opted not to activate him from injured reserve ahead of Monday night's game against the Washington Commanders.
Kirk could have a chance to return this weekend against the Atlanta Falcons as he works his way back from a calf injury.
"He had a good week last week," Shanahan said. "He'll be out there again today, so hopefully, he feels good at the end of the week."
Other players not practicing
Several other players aren't expected to practice on Wednesday, including cornerback Upton Stout (shoulder), wide receiver Deebo Samuel (hamstring), and defensive end Mykel Williams (knee).
The 49ers will release their official participation report after practice.
