Wouldn't have happened if Steve Bob McNair didn't say those things about not letting the inmates into the prison.

The only athletic QB that's been able to sustain success without injury is Russell Wilson but that's because God has a shield around him.
And what types would that be?
The black types that can't read defenses....right NC?
LMAO...definitely not that. I'd include any predominantly athletic QB including Tim Tebow and Johnny Manziel.
Tyrod has been beat to hell as well esp. last night. He's had multiple injuries but so far, no serious injuries right?
Usually those QB's aren't brought up when discussing "athletic QB's". What I do find funny is that when people mention Tebow and Manziel, they talk about throwing motion and extra curricular activities, but nothing on their inability to read defenses. Its something I find interesting, the narrative or stereotypes of "athletic QBs".

Oh God, there were a billions concerns about those two on whether they could read a defense, etc. I understand the label.
No label is perfect (like unathletic statue pocket passers) and there are always outliers of course.

First time I heard this type of "narrative." Watson is a proven winner and seems to be really good at reading defenses. Same can be said about Vick and Wilson. All three were much better at reading defenses than Tebow and Manziel.

Cunningham dealt with many injuries.
It took them years and years and years to learn how to suppress the urge to run. Steve Young talked about it extensively. That he didn't become a complete QB until he fully bought in and learned to tie his feet together.
The bottom line is, any time you're relying on back yard ball, it's just a matter of time before the wear and tear catches up to you or you take a hit that puts you out.
It's little wonder why, after a full 60 of scrambling around against a Hawks defense on turf, days later his ACL just gives out on a routine RO keeper.
dj43 posted a recent MD article on it as well. The line of like-QBs are stacking up and the spread-and-run college QB's are coming in with more wear and tear on them
than ever before.
Meanwhile, unathletic pocket passers that have learned to slide within the pocket are playing well into their late 30's and 40's.
Good thing Kyle is more old school here as it gives us a better chance of sustainability.

Meanwhile, Luck's body is destroyed and he was one of the most rushing/scrambling QBs in the league.....but he doesn't fit the narrative either. Only those "types" of QBs get injured because they're runners.....
Not to mention Rodgers was injured outside of the pocket scrambling. I mean he's one of the most mobile QBs in the league. May only run sideways but he still runs and he's always injured....doesn't fit narrative tho.
Mariota somehow didn't make NC's list either, amazing....I wonder why....

I think you're smart enough that I don't need to do a full comprehensive list for you. You get the overall point. The topic was on sustained success. And you proved my point...both times Rodgers was hurt was outside the pocket. But by no means is he a spread-and-run QB. Mariota has also had injuries but mild success at best.
The college game has changed from traditional pocket passers to a spread-and-run offense. As a result, while entertaining, this new breed of QB has a lot of miles and wear and tear coming into the NFL and struggle mightily adjusting to a pro-style offense save for off script plays. That doesn't mean one can't have a great season but can be sustain it?
The Texans adjusted their entire playbook, like k**e for RGII, HaRoman for Kaepernick, etc. to fit their college skill sets. The problem is, all 10 have to learn a new offense as well and find success in off script plays. It's tough.
When it works, it's great. Seattle struggles mightily with off script defense.
But can it be sustained? Right now, the overwhelming evidence says no.
This isn't a race thing by any means and I hope you're not going there as that would be pathetic.

Me too. Here's why Kaepernick would fit well once he fully learned the system.
One of the most dramatic effects Watson has had on the Texans' offense is in the run game. No longer is Houston a team that runs the ball up the middle and then changes things up by running the ball up the middle again. The run game is a jungle of options now. There are outside zones, quarterback draws, zone reads, options, and darts, all joined by that beloved inside zone play.
This all stems from Watson's athletic ability. Out of all the quarterbacks in the 2017 NFL Draft, he finished in the top five in five NFL Combine events: 40 yd dash, vertical leap, broad jump, and three cone. He finished tied for sixth in the 20 yard shuttle. Watson is a natural athlete. He can run in a straight line really fast. He can move laterally really fast. He can jump high. He can jump far.

Bill Obrien runs one of the most complex Offenses in the league....Kap would dumb it down even more than Watson as a rookie. I'm sure they would rather go another route.
