We talked regularly because he was up here, he wasn't in meetings or practice, but I remember the first week of training camp me saying to Jimmy like, 'Hey, if you don't like any of these opportunities, if you don't go to the place you want, you can't get the contract that you want, we would love to have you here as a backup in a backup role. I want you to know that we feel that way,"

The door was always open... People just didn't want to listen.

I can't speak for everyone, but for me, my reasoning is, why in the HELL would Jimmy EVER want to take a pay cut and play for the 49ers as the backup fter the way they insulted him (or so I imagined he would feel).

It wasn't, as you guys are implying, that we thought Jimmy sucked and the 49ers wanted to get rid of him ASAP. Just like it wasn't that the reason teams didn't trade for him was because he "sucked." In both cases, the salary had something to do with it.

And we WERE right on the 49ers end. They did NOT pay Jimmy 27 million dollars, did they? Nope. They made him reduce his salary to a number that is 400% smaller (400%*6.5 ~= 27.5).

Where we were clearly 100% wrong is with Jimmy's attitude. I would not have fault him if he told the 49ers to go to Hell, and I was certain he'd have felt that way. It turns out Jimmy is an even more stand up guy that we thought. Because he certainly doesn't need money.

So i dont think we can say what his " real " preference. Just saying after 5 years of jimmy it will take him a while to install a mature offense for lance. Hes dumbing everything down now. A little better than last year but what can you really do with 16 games in 3 years, 6 being preseason.

His dad coached and won with Steve Young and John Elway. With those two guys having elite traits in both the run and the pass as has Trey, there were plays he could call and expect to work at a high efficiency that I am not sure you call with Jimmy. The offense is fundamentally of the same philosophy BUT when you have elite traits you can stress a defense and impact a defense in multiple ways

channelling 1994 dad is part of the playbook? You're stretching. Anyway, the trey lance experiment is to keep him in the pocket so he develops like Tom Brady but is a tank instead of a nondescript athlete.

It wouldn't be the 1994 scheme. That was still heavily influence by Bill Walsh. The run game was man-blocking, mostly from split back formations. More like the 90s to 2000s Broncos.

That might even be better than if Trey does it. Jimmy gets to leave town a winner, and all the lambs, tardinals and seachicken fans get to choke on a mountain of crow.

If Jimmy won the Super Bowl, I'd ship Trey Lance off asap!!!

Then you wouldn't be a GM too much longer.
Love this move, remember getting grilled when I even suggested the idea of keeping jimmy. Some of you were counting down the day he gets cut for like 2 months.

To integrate trey's big arm means shanny has to change a lot of set-up concepts for the OZ.

I'm not an x and o's guy but I think it's more involved than you think.

Are u suggesting that the offense's design requires weaker-armed QBs?

Funny thing is that Shanahan is really calling a lot of the same plays he always does, but the QB chooses the shorter route. What will change is more deep shots off of play-action, and probably fewer RPOs, slants, and sticks (but when they're called, expect Trey to hesitate half the time, scramble, and throw deeper near the sideline).

If you ignore the contract reality at the time, you're not really making a relevant point.
I heard that Mac has been really struggling this camp getting use to the new offense. And their 1st 4 games are @Miami, @Pitt, Home to the Ravens, and @GB. What if they start 1-3 with Mac struggling. Would Bill come calling for Jimmy?

For another small deal?
Maybe, maybe not. I know common sense is hard for some but he will sign a deal this year in hopes of playing and earning a better deal. Extremely basic what I was saying.

You missed the inference. It's ok,...as it's in the 3rd part below.

1) "Need" is a strong word. If a team "needs" him, why would the deal be small?

2) Given no TC with the team that immediately needs him,...you envision him playing better than he played last year? The "perfectly content" part suggests more than a "maybe, maybe not" vibe.

3) But yea,...I'd see nothing more than an even smaller contract next year given the situation. I'd think he would get as much security as he can get in his next deal instead of relying on the possibility that his greatness will eventually shine with a desperate team and no offseason or TC with them.

TreyDey? You see what I mean now?

Uhh TreyDey said was 100% correct. Jimmy signed a small deal with a team.that needed a backup(Sudfeld wasn't it) and will have a chance to sign another contract next season. Pretty simple dude. If it wasn't us it'd be someone else.

Forget about having normal conversations, even having healthy debates about anything….it's all about trying finding gotcha moments, exaggerating, and acting like you have any f**king clue as to how someone feels about a player or topic.

yeah every comment I've ever wrote about Jimmy is hate lol giving me a f**king break. Years worth of posts in this thread that aren't criticisms or "hate" but none of that matters because I wanted to move off him this past off season. Yeah look at this one comment that proves it lol. What pathetic poster and way to go about it in here

I also love how when situations change, which subsequently make your opinions change, people try to use that as a gotcha moment and claim goalposts have been moved.

I didnt want Jimmy as a backup in the slightest bit because I never in a million years anticipated he would be ok taking an EIGHTEEN MILLION DOLLAR PAYCUT. And since I am cool with him being the backup at $6.5M, I moved the goalposts.

It was pretty obvious scenario a while ago when nobody was going to trade for him with a 25 mill contract that he was going to take a one year small prove it deal somewhere.

There isnt a 49er fan in the world that believed he would take a six million dollar deal to return to the 49ers. Any claim otherwise is disingenuous.

Lol to think Jimmy was going to get released and get a huge deal lol. It was obvious that he was going to sign a small deal somewhere. 49ers were always a possibility, albeit or small you guys just refused to listen to people smarter than you.

People smarter than me....like Kyle Shanahan? Well he said this today:

"We never ever thought this could happen.....Nobody in the league believed this was the outcome that would be, but it ended up that way and we feel fortunate it did."

But I refused to listen to people smarter than me huh?

We watched Deebo take the team on his back this yr not Jimmy who yet again couldn't play a full season of football and is STILL f**king this team because he can't stay healthy.

He's a nice dude and good locker room guy. He isn't the worst starting QB in the league, but clearly replaceable…the league has spoken about his worth. Anyone trying to create a different narrative is either being a massive homer or is just dumb at this point.

Yet, we cant replace him.

you can replace him with freaking Mishew who's got better stats then Jimmy on way worse teams.

Did you notice the part where Shanny leaves open the door for his return. I'm not sure why this is so difficult for you guys. Lynch has said it many times and so has Shanny.

"Shanahan said they haven't made a call on what it'll look like if both are on the roster."

Why not? What does he mean by this? Be honest. It's pretty straight forward dude. You guys are the ones changing narratives. You really are.

I think they're trying to keep his trade value up.

Stop with logic and put your tin foil hat back on.
.

oh and I could provide hundreds.....

Huh?

Read the tweet...

Jimmy returning was a possibility even back in March. He was never ruled out. Him retuning on a new contract was always a possibility if people actually listened.

Listen, Ribs....he literally just had multiple quotes today that completely contradict that. Believe what you choose to. No one believed he was going to take an $18M paycut. No one.

As Ribs would say...."You calling Shanahan a liar???!!"

What Ribs...errrr....TreyDey said, huh??

Where is the 1-year Prove It risk at this point in the season that he claimed Jimmy will take??

I told You,...errr.,...TreyDey all along that Jimmy wasn't interested in that ish for the reasons listed.

The hell is he going to prove on new team suddenly desperate for a QB with no TC and a cheap new 1-year deal?

That he deserves another 1-year deal the next offseason,....maybe?

Take the L proudly on this one Ribby. Jimmy wants his next new contract to be a secure one. As much money and years as possible.

Absolutely not.

The Patriots are expected to struggle this season by just about everyone.

Lol he said none of this. You are triggered and lying again. He said Jimmy will sign a small deal to get a better deal next year which is exactly what he did. You're literally just putting words in his mouth. Nobody said it was a risk like you claim. You're literally fabricating lies and you've done it to me too.

It's kinda hard to hold TreyDey/Ribs accountable for for all of his swings and misses given all the names he's allowed to have.
