The smart thing to do. I was worried they would try to do right by Jimmy over what's right for the team. No reason to cut him before that, It does nothing to benefit the team. It's not like we need the cap space at the moment.

Still hoping we can get a day 3 pick or an OLine trade for him. But yeah, it's looking like he'll be cut the day before the 53 day.

Maybe it's been worked out behind the scenes. I mean, if I was Jimmy I'd want to be traded in order to get back as much $ as possible. But if there are no starting opportunities I'd be ok being a high paid backup on a team I know and love.

I don't know why he would be willing to take a big pay cut to be the backup. I don't want him on the team to be the backup in case of injury. As long as he's there we will see the constant argument about whether he should be starting or not unless Trey absolutely knocks it out of the park. Any slight waiver or any less than stellar game and the cries will start for Jimmy.

Exactly. And from the 49ers front office perspective having that extra 27 million next season will allow us to retain a lot of players we would otherwise not be able to so it makes sense.

i believe we might be able to almost double that amount, if we don't need to sign a lot of players while the season goes on.

27 rollover from the cut and 27 not being on the books next year ?
