He just looked like he knew what he was doing in addition to his arm talent, pocket presence, footwork, etc.

I noticed during the game he throws before the receiver is open. We have not had that since garcia. He does have the most poise any 49er has had since steve, and I think he will be the most accurate qb we have ever had.

Garcon was a multi year sign, Goodwin more of a place holder. He's stepping up though so I think the need for a receiver is downgraded to just finding replacement for Garcon/ and I think we need a red zone body. Goodwin is a great vertical threat but as the field shrinks he's going to be less effective.

Nice post tjd. And here's another thought. Any idea of the last time we had TEN 3rd down conversions? How about 8 games or half a season into 2007...TEN yrs ago since we last had 10. 3rd down conversions. Now that is really, REALLY BAD. But the guy who just starts for the first time, doesn't know the mannerisms of the WRs, goes out and for TT and Marquise JImmyG went 8/8 and 6/ 6. When was the last time we saw that kind of harmony? How about 19 yrs ago? Yeah, we haven't seen that kind of production since when Eddie D still owned the 9ers. So we didn't just see a first game on Sun, we saw the start of something not seen here this century. First time Luck? Don't bet on it. That was pin point passing from a guy who just got his first 9er uniform 4 weeks ago. And he was poised, accurate, slid out of trouble with ease, and made it look easy...which we know it iisn't . Stepping into a situation like this, out of nowhere, tells us Jimmy learned a ton from the guy he backed up for. And he is one helluva athlete. The poise and coolness under fire? Wow. Also, as bad as I have ripped Kilgore , fusco, and Laken, did you noice how well they played with a guy who could get the ball gone right quick and....on target? Yeah, Kilgore was rated as our top player( PFF) on O just behind JimmyG. Go figure. The OL was playing its heart out because they knew they didn't have to block for 10 seconds on each play. Jimmy had that puppy gone and quick.

Amazing how one guy can so affect the rest of his teammates. But you get the right one guy? And well, we shall see. But the last time we had the right one guy, good things happened for us. Right now with a decimated 21 man IR team( for the 4th yr in a row)...and no central 2/3 of the OL, right up the gut....ask yourself...how the heck did jimmy make all those guys look so much better? That is the guy we have been waiting for. Time will tell but this was one helluva coming out party. FRankly i don't expect him to play this well next week. But still , what a way to start.

He is easily the best QB talent since Young. It is arguable that he is the best raw talent since Joe.

The scary part for our NFC West rivals is that: a) This is a perfect system match for JG. I can't imagine how lethal the offense will be when he has full playbook at his disposal. b) We will be loading up on offensive talent and probably an edge rusher through draft/FA.

Arrows WAY up.

I personally believe J. Landry > Adams and Watkins > Robinson.

What makes you think these guys are better?

Have you seen what Robinson has been able to do with Blake Bortles?

Landry is basically a slot guy and doesn't offer as much on the outside. We're good on slot guys but a big outside receiver who can go up for the ball and be a big target in the redzone would be great.

Watkins was a top 5 pick who didn't last his rookie contract on the team that traded a lot to move up to draft him #4 overall. There is a reason for that. Stop thinking he's the same guy who was drafted so high.

Of course the issue is Jags won't let Robinson walk. Adams would be a good addition but not sure Packers would let him walk either but not certain of their cap situation.

So I disagree completely, but it's really just because of the scheme fit since we already have Garcon locked up.

While I don't think we are great on outside guys, if we're gonna go after one - we need someone to play across from Garçon, and Shanny wants speed there, which Allen Robinson really doesn't have. And it'll just be worse coming off an ACL. We'd have two solid-great possession receivers but no field stretcher.

I think this was one of our biggest issues in 2014 when we had Boldin and Crabtree the - two very talented WRs who didn't compliment each other well.

Sammy Watkins can fill that spot. He's an absolute specimen athletically and he's looked great and pretty damn explosive outside of injuries. Even with the awful qb play and run-heavy schemes in Buffalo. Unfortunately there's no way they're letting him walk in LA.

Devante has come on strong but I feel like even Marquise is a better scheme fit for that position. Would love to get a true #1 there for sure though.

On the other hand, Landry would be a huge upgrade over Taylor and would be a great scheme fit for us. He gets open consistently in man coverage and is one of the most reliable wideouts in the league. I really think he'd be a great piece to add for Jimmy G.

I hear you, man.

Haha I hear you too but come on guys, we were in the NFC Championship 4 years ago and started out 7-3 the next season. It definitely feels like a lifetime ago though!

So he's off a little on the years - I get the gist of it.

Seriously?

The team was already good/established at the time you are referring to. I'm referring to where the team was spinning its wheels during the Nolan/Singletary era. 7 years ago (pre-Harbaugh)

Fun to pull out old stuff from the old draftroom Jimmy G thread:

If it sounds to good to be true, it usually is. There is no way Garropolo goes for only 1 second round pick. Mark my words, I will eat crow, but it will take at least a second and a third or a second in the following draft.

I doubt New England would go for this as they always value second round picks because of rookie wage scale, but I would love to swap first round picks for Garropolo. They get pick two, the niners get pick 32. We then get our QB and picks 32 and 34, a plus plus for a team that needs everything under the sun.

How would u like your Crow?

So, is Shanny following Walsh? He gets an Italian QB that went to a college in the midwest and he ends up starting late in the first year

But... not every game will have an up arrow. Sooner or later some DC is going to have the talent and the scheme - especially with the still relatively weak inside OL - to put consistent heavy pressure on JG even with JG's quick recognition and release. We got a couple of glimpses Sunday that he can handle that pressure well, but I think he will be facing defenses that will probably get in his face a more than Chicago did. How he handles that, I think, will be really telling - sort of indicating where his floor is. He looks like he has the tools to have a pretty high floor, though.

And then there's his ceiling. Shanahan is going to help him find it - maybe by the end of next season. I don't think it is fan-ciful to think there's a really good chance that his ceiling is up there near or at elite level.

Of course, it's not just about JG leading the offense that determines whether or not the 9ers will win any more games this year. I can see it ending up with the 9ers not winning any more games or one or two more games. But even then, it could easily be a big arrows up going into next year.

GB has $43,000,000 next season. Money will not be an issue if they want to keep him. (overthecap)
