Dude played well with one leg, just because Nick came in and balled out doesn't mean he should be benched. The emergence of Aiyuk and the return of Deebo and Kittle will be huge and if he can't get it doen we know nick can. But right now the smart move is still Jimmy. Nick doesn't have a lot of film out yet but he lazer beams his passes and they're gonna start getting picked off if he doesn't put a little more air under them

you would think that would be the logical reason of thinking but it isn't around here when you have posters emotionally attached to 1 player like Nick

The biggest difference I see is hesitation. We call nick big dick nick cause he doesn't give a f**k and goes with instinct and the belief the players around him are doing their job.

Jimmy just always looks .5 seconds too slow and that's a huge time gap in the NFL

I would say I'm surprised by some of the responses in here but I'm not.

Last week it's Jimmy playing well vs the Jets so no big deal.

This week Mullens plays well vs the Giants and Jimmy should lose his job.

Mullens did some good things. If he has to start more games I hope he does those things again. He also also made several mistakes that Jimmy would be getting shredded here for by the same people claiming Jimmy should be benched.

Same old fanbase...

Name one. Mullens had more passes to both WRs and outside the numbers in this game than Jimmy has in his last 4 starts combined.

Hmm let's see several passes where his receivers had to bend awkwardly to make the catch. Nick does it and it's him doing what's necessary, Jimmy does it and he's inaccurate and has sloppy mechanics.

Takes an awful sack with a blitzer coming right at him. I can only imagine this thread if Jimmy did that.
Jimmy throws a pass that gets the TE injured "damn you Jimmy"

Nick throws a pass that gets the TE injured - not a peep.

Let me start by saying I'm on the side of jimmy keeping his job.. theres no debate there. But you're saying Nick's pass caused Reeds foot to get stuck in that terrible turf .. come on man

Jimmy threw it high with a defender coming in on Kittle. Mullens pass was in the endzone, with no defenders around. Reed just twisted his ankle on the turf.
Every since Jimmy got paid, he's been mediocre with the exception of a handful of games.

His solution to his turn over problem seems to be not to take risks at all, including not throwing downfield or outside the hash marks. And he's still prone to make hugely errant throws (decisions) as displayed in the Cards game. Like just chucking it in the air with game on the line.

As a fan, I'm willing to give him more time because of his BRILLIANT 2017 campaign, but my patience is wearing thin.

You didn't watch the 1st half of the Jets game, then. Carrying an injury.

It's still his job to lose still. But hopefully he will be on a short leash once he's back starting. He needs to stop being so scared and throw it to some WRs, especially more than 5-10 yards down the field. It's great to have TEs like Kittle and Reed who can get so much YAC, but we can't depend on that all the time. He needs to make some big boy throws like Mullens did.

People were making excuses for Jimmy oh he ain't got no weapons his WRs are crap. Then Nick went out and balled with even a worse group of weapons. No more excuses for Jimmy, either ball or grab the clipboard.

Just for some perspective, and to show how two different matrixes look:

The NFL rating system has Jimmy at #6 with a rating of 118.6. Mullens at #19 with a 95.5 rating.

Pro Football Focus has Jimmy at #22 with a 69 rating. Mullens at #16 and a 74 rating. Jimmy low average. Mullens high average.

JG has arguably played a tougher opponent than Nick.

Way too soon to be betting the mortgage on either one. The Giants are BAD. The Jets are BAD. Let's see what happens after the Philly and Miami games. Until then, let's enjoy a relatively easy run. It gets tougher.

This is such an unfair analysis. Anyone who watches the games can tell the difference, despite the stats. Sure the Jets suck, but most of our offensive weapons where down because of injury. No Kittle. No Mostert. No Deebo. No Coleman. Not even Reed for half the game.

Just be honest, Mullens attempted passes (and completed them), that I haven't since Jimmy attempt since early last year with any regularity. For whatever reason, he's been completely shell shocked. Also, if you watch other teams besides the Niners, you would see that Jimmy rarely takes any good risks.

exactly, stop playing tentative, that's the frustrating part, some games he looks good, some games he looks like a rookie

Another one who didn't bother to watch the 1st half of the Jets game.

I seriously wonder what people would think Jimmy's record is if all they had to base it off of was peoples posts about him.
