He's a corn ball but he's a terrific QB at this point and I think anyone thinking he struggles with our roster assuming he learns the offense is just being a homer.
Having said that much like Wilson improved as a pocket passer, Jimmy can make similar if not better improvements as a pocket passer. He'll never be the scrambler that Wilson is but as I said before we don't need that in this offense.
If Jimmy cuts down his turnovers, learns to read and manipulate the defense better and improves his deep ball we'll have ourselves a terrific QB. Assuming we're healthy I think we see him take a big step forward this season.
Remember the golden rule about mobile QBs:
There will always be an element of their mobility to their greatness, ALWAYS. I would say Steve Young was an exception to this rule, sue me if you think I'm being a homer. Him making some epic late game runs were not a constant like Wilson just running to make the offense work.
So what that means is that Wilson could never be Brees or Brady at their advanced ages. He's done well enough to make things happen the way they are, but if he lost all that mobility overnight his performance would drop hard as well.
Guys like Garoppolo, Brady, Brees had no choice but to be good from the pocket. So the expectation is that they'll have more potential to improve in that aspect.
Whether that's enough to make them better than the new wave of mobile QBs is a good question, but to me there's no way Murray, Lamar Jackson, Wilson, Mahomes, will ever truly be pocket surgeons like the all time greats are. Just impossible. 20+ years of being able to use their legs is a luxury you can't ever really throw away.
