Gotta admit, starting his first full season and taking his team to the Super Bowl is pretty damn impressive. Wilson vs. Denver wasn't all that impressive at all to be honest, seriously, 200 yards and two TD's, while Denver was held to 8 points, that was ALL defense in that game. BUT, Wilson IMO, is still one of the best QB's in the NFL, definitely top 5.

Sorry guys. This is absurd. I have no problem with liking Jimmy more. I like Jimmy more. But Russ is an MVP candidate every year. Jimmy has never played at that level.

Give Jimmy G. 4 full seasons and see if this is still absurd.

I think if you swapped them, Wilson's numbers go up and Jimmy's go down. Wilson hasn't been in a system where he doesn't need to pull a rabbit out of his hat to get wins. I'm pretty sure Jimmy would have a harder time doing that in Seattle since he isn't near the running threat and doesn't have that uncanny touch on the deep ball. Wilson is one of those guys you hate and find fault with unless he's on your team. He also hasn't missed a start in his career which is pretty amazing when you consider the amount of running he does and the number of sacks he takes.

How do you know Wilson's wouldn't go down too?? His numbers weren't exactly where they're at now in his first 4 years with a top rushing game.

So Jimmy is slightly ahead, or he needs 3 more full seasons to be slightly ahead?

Because you have said both now, and they contradict each other.

How do they contradict each other?? I haver no doubt in my mind if Jimmy G. stays healthy he'll be right there with Russell Wilson in contending every season. Its simple, when Jimmy G. starts, he wins.

If one is trying to prove the point that player A is as good or slightly better than player B, using "ifs" is a pretty terrible way to make said point. Arguing in hypotheticals is basically like guessing. The simple fact of the matter is, Jimmy has never played at the level that Russell Wilson has played at for multiple seasons now.

And your "when Jimmy starts, he wins" statement can be used for Wilson too.

I really hate that I have to argue FOR Russell Wilson on a 49er board when I really cant stand the guy. The idea that Jimmy is currently the better quarterback is so absurd, its almost difficult to put the opposing argument into words.

Here is another way to put it.

Lets say Carl owns a business that has generated $100M profit since it started, and currently makes $10M a year. Then Joseph starts a business that in one year made $8M, but some people project it could make $25M a year in the future.

You are arguing that Joseph's business is currently a more profitable business.

I'm basing that on the fact that I think Kyle is the best or one of the top 2 offensive minds in the league. I think too many people feel that because Wilson is forced to win so many games with his athleticism that he can't stay in the pocket and run an offense. He hasn't had that luxury. People said a lot of the same things about Steve Young but once he became the starter he learned how to stay in the pocket and not take off and run all the time.

Do you honestly think Jimmy would be as good as he is without Kyle and Brady/Belichik before. Wilson never had the benefit of any of them. They threw him out there and he learned on the fly. Without a sophisticated passing game he's been forced to use his legs and strong arm to win. If Kyle had him from day one he would be a much different QB.

Here's the thing though, we can only go off of what is on record. Arguing against me is also guess on your behalf too, or no??

Also you're making it sounds as if I'm saying Jimmy G is better than Wilson. When in fact I'm preferring Jimmy G to Wilson, how is any of what I'm saying wrong or contradicting if its what I prefer??

Your Jimmy G hate is showing you better tuck that in before someone sees you!!

Arguing semantics now. You are right, you didnt explicitly state that Jimmy is better than Russell. But the conversation we were having is about who the better QB is, and you came in and said you "prefer" Jimmy.

How exactly would you have interpreted that?

And my hate for Jimmy? Lol stop. As soon as the word hater or hate gets put into a debate, that's when you know the debate has concluded.

Russell Wilson was an unfinished QB for a few years when Seattle was at their best. The way to stop them on offense was to keep Wilson in the pocket and make him beat you throwing from there....he has developed far beyond that guy. He will absolutely beat you that way if you give him time.

He's a corn ball but he's a terrific QB at this point and I think anyone thinking he struggles with our roster assuming he learns the offense is just being a homer.

Having said that much like Wilson improved as a pocket passer, Jimmy can make similar if not better improvements as a pocket passer. He'll never be the scrambler that Wilson is but as I said before we don't need that in this offense.

If Jimmy cuts down his turnovers, learns to read and manipulate the defense better and improves his deep ball we'll have ourselves a terrific QB. Assuming we're healthy I think we see him take a big step forward this season.

So you take things outta context then? I mean I gave my reason/s why I preferred and nowhere did I state he was better. Matter of fact I went as far as to say Wilson is a top 5 QB, I don't remember saying the same about Jimmy G..
dam ciara is some fine chocolate.
i don't know why i like this game so much but i do

Give Wilson his due. For the amount of talent he has, he keeps them in games. However that said, he has played in this league and as a starter for a long time now. Sherman harped on Wilson in the beginning. Wilson has grown. Jimmy will to. They are different players though. He was like Fran tarkenton, but a better passer, his ability to escape to buy more time, but keep his eyes downfield and cause coverages to breakdown is what makes him good. Jimmy has a quick release, his understanding the offense better will help be even more accurate and make better decisions. If Trent becomes back healthy, those mistakes and interceptions will also drop. Not to mention of the other injure players that were not there who could cause problems for the opposition. JM and Hurd.
While it's fair to argue that Wilson's demonstrated higher level of play than Jimmy, it's also reasonable to say that Jimmy hasn't stunk up a field at his worst quite like Wilson. If you round up Jimmy's 5 worst NFL starts and Wilson's, you'd think Wilson wouldn't belong in the league while Jimmy was just an avg QB. I could find some real stinkers in Wilson's first 30 NFL starts, and I guess the excuse would be he didn't have Jimmy's 5+ years of league experience LOL.

Now if you say, let's wait for Jimmy to play longer to expose some s**tty games, well, LOL........let's also wait longer to see what he can really do at his peak!

There's just something totally different about Jimmy G vs most QBs (the looks, the Patriots pedigree) and the SF 49ers (the Montana/Young legacy) that puts Jimmy on a much tighter rope than other QBs ever have to deal with. Garnder Minshew doing exactly what he does with SF would be criticized but with the Jags he's a "gamer".

For everything Wilson is now, he truly was not a star QB (passer) until last season, maybe slightly before that. If the Wilson of 2015-2017 lined up against our team last year, it would have been two very easy wins.

And like JoeCool said, when it's absolutely f**king crunch time, the motherf**ker always runs. Always. So imagine if the tag line was that for Steve Young? "He was just as good as Montana, except in crunch time Montana kept throwing from the pocket and Young scrambled".

Not the case really, but you get the drift.

Excited to see what the progression of JG will be going forward.
