Yup that's next to nothing when you're talking about 6 yrs of "playing"

This is actually maddening. lol

It's good to sit and learn to observe how a vet QB prepares and goes about his day. Nothing replaces actually playing.

Thank you! That's what I pointed up earlier and jimmy said that's what he leaned from TB. How to prepare and be a pro.

Absolutely This..
And it also depends on the team & coaching staff surrounding the QB..
You can put a rookie in to hand off on a run heavy football team pretty easily.

Totally. The answer is both. Steve Young, Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes, etc. all had the perfect scenarios. A chance to sit and learn how to become a professional QB without the pressure of starting right away. And went to great teams, systems and QB friendly HC's. Ideal.

Garoppolo is getting that too...but like Steve Young, had to go to a new team, system and is just now getting real playing experience in it.

And like the aforementioned QB's, he'll reach whatever his ceiling is, under a QB friendly HC...Kyle Shanahan.

Just give the guy a chance to grow, please.

This is precisely the problem for Brady if the nutty theory he would come to the 49ers became a reality. He would be hopeless in his first year after playing in Belichecks system for how many years? He would have to learn Shanahan's system and then use his skills. By then he would be 44. Such a fail of an idea.

Exactly. And Jimmy still has a lot to learn at the los in terms of reading and adjusting. A 5th year pro should already know but oh well. It is what it is

It has. And the exact opposite point has been made in another thread thats in NFL talk quite a few times too. Funny thing to me is that the same people are making both points, and the points are opposites. I agree with the point being made now in here.

Th point was that it doesn't matter how much class room work, film study and listening to coaches/mentors, you still need game time to put it all together. (not quite sure where you were going but...)

Was gonna say I guess we gotta spell it out for you, but THL did exactly that and dudes still not getting it.
Sad.
Hopefully your explanation will finally get through.

So odd that we have people constantly say over and over "6 year vet" when it's been explained over and over play time is different then sitting behind another QB..
And to top it off Jimmys coming back from a major injury!

I've only seen Jimmy audible correctly like twice all season. Kyle's play calling was brilliant all year and masked many many deficiencies that he has as a passer. I don't know if it's footwork, mechanics or a combination of both but the timing isn't there. I bet if he worked on footwork this offseason it'll improve his accuracy 20 fold
Lol....play with the #s all you want.

You can sell the "he's only played 26 games" line all you want,...but Jimmy played in 19 games this year alone when you include the playoff run. So he's only played in 7 games before this Superbowl run? Lol.

"But in alot of the games he barely threw....mostly hand-offs!"

Well yeah,...kinda like our entire playoff run. So I guess I just negate those games as experience because I have a house to sell?

The only ones going for this fudgy "like a 2nd year player" math are people that are trying to sell the same inexperienced line you already are. No one on the fence is suddenly getting convinced that Jimmy's kinda like a rookie all of a sudden or anything. It's a waste of time and energy trying to sell this one. He's played behind the best and has over 40 games of experience (taken snaps in 44 to be exact, nothing to do with simply being on the active roster).

That's my feeling as well.

He got years to spend behind arguably the GOAT Qb and arguably the GOAT head coach for 4 years. He's now had 3 seasons with us.

Granted this was his first full season coming off an injury. Now he gets a full off season with the staff and players. I'm skeptical as to how much ceiling he has simply because of his playstyle. He doesn't seem like a raw prospect that put up those numbers From 2019. To me he reminds me of a systematic guy, who had flashes of poor play that were concealed by the system and our running game.

Next season, now that he's had a full season under the belt and now gets a full offseason is gonna be the true test.

I think it's pointless to argue about the topic anymore to be honest. It's either u believe he can be the guy, or he can't be, and in my mind both sides hold valid arguments to why he can or cannot he the guy. This next season is a very important one.

Dude you learn by playing....crap have none of you ever played a sport in your life?

QB especially is a position you NEED LIVE reps.

3 yrs lol...he's played 26 games in his career. He spent all of last yr and into the off season recovering from a ACL. He had to learn walk/run again.

One thing you said is correct, this whole debate is pointless.

I think it'd be easier if you tried to reach a middle ground with some of the posters disagreeing with you. I feel like my post was pretty chill, gave jimmy credit, but also questioned things which are valid to question because just like you say, his sample size is very small to go off of... but instead you found in some way to spit fire back at me lol.

Boom

Sam Darnold has more career pass attempts than Jimmy Garoppolo. How can anyone seriously suggest that he should be a finished product at this point...
