Mullens is a solid QB, but his production is pretty inflated due to Shanahan's system. If you learn the offense, most any QB will look competent. Shanny schemes guys WIDE open on a regular basis. Easy money for the QB if hes getting the ball out on time.

If hes traded to JAX he'll come back to earth. But by then we'll have the draft pick.

So then why didn't CJ or Hoyer look this good?

Because they suck. I never said Mullens wasn't a solid QB. Hes just not as good as he looks in Shanahan's offense. In Jacksonville hed look a lot more pedestrian, I guarantee that.

Yardage wise, he has the 3rd highest production through his first 7 starts in NFL history. Obviously hes not THAT good in actuality.

we should keep him, yes, because he can win games (here and there) for us if or when our starter is hurt...
Wait, what? We already know this after 7 games? Or because he's undrafted and not the athletically gifted type? I know everything is stacked against him, but after 7 games I can't make that conclusion.

The point is Garoppolo is better, and was paid as such. Mullens' value is a capable backup until he is either traded for a draft pick, or leaves in free agency for a starting opportunity.
Points with Nick:
34 Raiders D
23 Giants D
9
16
20
19 (remember Richie James Jr. TD return)
9

I like him a lot. Those last games were against good/great Ds. He's vastly exceeded our expectations. But let's not get carried away here. Those numbers don't exactly scream tearin' it up.

No, I don't disagree with that at all. Moon already made the conclusion that he's not a starter material based on his 7 games. Fitzgerald started a few seasons before we can all agree that he's a mediocre as a starter. He's a backup to JG here and if another team trades for him, then that's only way we will know if he's a starter material. But so far, he's balling alright compared to other starters out there. And he's doing it against some good defense these last couple of games. But you're right he's the perfect backup for our team behind JG, but it remains to be seen if another team trades for him and is given the chance to be the man.

But you also have to compare it to the other QB in their first few games. You also have into account the state of our offensive rosters. The in and out of players from playing due to injuries especially to the wide receiver groups. Garcon, Goodwin,Pettis were in and out of the lineup throughout the season. Same thing with the RB. So there are no consistencies there. I agree his numbers are ok, but he brought some stability once he took over and that's hard to do especially your first few games when nothing is going right for the team. I like his command of the huddle and moxie.

Your words "If you learn the offense, most any QB will look competent. Shanny schemes guys WIDE open on a regular basis. Easy money for the QB if hes getting the ball out on time." Seems we can just plug ANYONE in to do that.

No one said he's the 3rd best QB in history, but thanks for proving our point for us. Any team wanting to trade for him will have to give up a 3rd, MINIMUM. Otherwise we'll just keep him as a backup. Hell one could make an argument for trading JG for more picks and cap space, to build the team around Mullens and his cheap contract.

Shanny: Silence with the trade talk, he's going nowhere...Nick will do a fine job backing up JG. Period.

Rewatching the game pass to Kittle in the endzone in the second quarter (6:34 mark) from Mullens should have been placed at the 1 blatant PI that was missed.

It was clearly a PI and Shanahan said it after the game and Yesterday also.
I think he praised Mullens for his improvisation on this play.
The guy escaped Mack and gave a chance to his tigh end for a TD.

Yeah great play by Mullens, I love Kittle but that's his next step in development, he has the traits to make plays like this, Gronk, Witten, Greg Olsen, Tony Gonzales all make that play, they put their frame in front of the defender and reach out with strong hands for the TD.
He's a better version of Shuan Hill. Hill had a respectable 15yr NFL Career.
