For all we know Jimmy G is never the same again.....

Not that i personally believe that, I am certain Jimmy G is a rare talent and glad we have him. I hope Mullens is legit and awesome, but you don't drop the best QB the 49ers have had in recent memory because of a young QB with some promise.

ACL injuries have very little to do with QB play unless you're the type of QB that relies on athleticism. Garoppolo with be back to 100%.

Tom Brady and Deshaun Watson seem to be doing just fine.

Moon, my stance on Mullens has always been he's perfect for our system and we should keep him. He's young and perfect insurance to JG if he's not ready or God forbid he gets injured again. Now if a team presented us an offer we can't refuse, I would seriously consider it which we can use to upgrade a starting position. My issue with your post was that you said he's only a backup material after only 7 games. Maybe, maybe not. That's not enough of games under his belt to lean one way or the other IMO. Fitzpatrick had played and started multiple seasons to know he's mediocre. He has enough sample size to declare he's backup material

You could say the same thing about Beathard. Fans are always quick to jump on a player when he has a rough stretch and just as quick to call them great after a few games. It sometimes takes 2-3 years to really evaluate a players real value.
I agree. After having a few games under his belt then sitting and watching JG the last few games from last season, I was hoping he somehow would have progressed this year. I understand not all QB improved the same time and he's still a work in progress at this point. I'm not closing the book on CJ but how long before he fully grasp the nuances of Quarterbacking and will he ever get there? Mullens meanwhile is light years ahead of him.
If we can get a 2nd or 3rd for Mullens I think we have to take it.

We could add another potential starter for a QB that is accentuated in Kyle's QB friendly offense. I have no doubt that Kyle can develop another #2 QB. I think he still believes in Beathard too.

Mullens for a 1st and trading our pick for a draft load could net us two 1st's, two 2nd's, two 3rd's and two 1st's and two 2nd's next year. A long shot but with this new Herbert news, who knows..

I say we hold out for 15 1st's
NM surprisingly grew on me with each game. The kid can play. We're in a great situation going into next season with Jimmy and Nick.
Nick Mullens is a Starter in this league. IMO he's better than a few starters out there.

Just because good starters are hard to come by doesn't mean we should trade him for a 3rd Rd Pick or a 4th or what ever.

We don't know how Jimmy will be next year... look I'm a person who doesn't feel both should be talked about as equals like some try to juice up. BUT I'd rather have Mullens around if something happens to Jimmy. We have the rights to Nick for a while. We have Jimmy locked up for a while... so lets just go into the next few seasons with Jimmy as the starter and Nick right behind him...and see what happens.

I don't want no Hoyer type backup lingering around again.

Let's put it this way if Nathan Peterman, Kase Keenum,Jameis Winston, Blake Bortles,Ryan Tannehill and so forth can be starters in this league then yeah so can Nick Mullens. He's a backup here but a possible starter for someone else.

Nick is definitely a starter in the league.
That throw to Trent Taylor just before the half was pretty good by Mullens. Accurate and on time, over the underneath trailing defender and right before the safety got there, and inside the sideline just enough for Taylor to keep his feet inbound.

Nick did a fine job on that
Not sure Nicks value is as high as some think but we can't trade him. The value of backups are going up. Trading him away is a dangerous game. All that money spent and the entire year is being depended upon one player not getting hurt.

I think for a second or even a high third you have to atleast consider it. That's incredible value for an UDFA.

You're right. Though I think we could get a 3rd for him this offseason. But that shouldn't be enough to part from a QB who has proven capable to win games. That's especially true since Garoppolo still needs to prove he can do it for 16 games AND he's in the team's walk year on his contract.

Just doesn't make sense to trade him for a mid-rounder. The likelihood that he will start games in 2019 is very high.

It doesn't matter where he was taken.

The only things that matters if value relative to his performance and projection.

Philip Lindsay is an UDFA. But the Broncos won't trade him for a 4th rounder and call it a good deal just because they traded him for more than his draft slot.

Once a player is signed/selected it is no longer relevant from that point on in regard to trade value. All that matters is performance and projection.
Nick worth more to the Niners than a draft pick, especially when you considered Jimmy lost a season by blown out his knee.
