And we all know how Foster ended up.

We got more high end play from foster who played nearly half(?) the games.

I hope they don't stop trying to take those risks. Seems like we haven't won any with Aldon and Foster but there are guys like Frank Clark and Honey badger who worked out. Foster was a good risk imo no one close to his talent at that point.

This. That's the worst take I've read on here in a very long time.

I could see your point if you think he's going to be like Kwame Harris. A bust who plagues you for 5 seasons.

Sometimes it's better to have a pick who completely wipes out. Allows you to move on quicker.

Not that I'm agreeing with you.

Don't think so. But no question he's been very disappointing as far as top 3 selection. But still I can't help but think his sister's suicide played a significant part of his poor season.

He certainly wasn't what we wanted and hoped for last year but when you compare his rookie season to this season it's still a totally different player.

41 tackles, 34 solo, 10 TFL, 3 sacks, 11 QB Hits in 14 games as a rookie
31 tackles, 24 solo, 3 TFL, 1 sack, 6 QB Hits in 16 games this year

And that's with him getting his best production int he last few games when getting more inside snaps.

Usually guys don't improve if they're lazy and don't work to improve their game. That's not the issue with Thomas. We'll never know what would've happened this year if he didn't have to suffer through that but hopefully time helps him and this offseason will be very important for him.

Not understanding your post in relation to his stats?

You say he's a totally different player yet show his production went down in year two.

I think hes showing how his sister's suicide, which happened after his rookie year, bombed this season for him.

Correct.

You don't need a PhD dissertation to explain Solomon Thomas. His head wasn't right this year. That's all. No guarantee it get better next year. Could be a complete washout.

You dont need a PhD dissertation to see that he sucks. He has very little nfl talent.

Haha perfect!
Hopefully they allow him to play at 285lbs instead of 270lbs this year. I think that would make him much more effective especially when kicked inside.
He spends entirely too much time watching the play instead of making the play. I cut him slack due to his personal tragedy, but he is a professional, and a grown man. At some point you have to man up and earn your keep. Plenty of NFL players have lost loved ones to tragic circumstances and have not only kept their level of play up, but used the loss as inspiration to reach greater heights. Hopefully hes not some emotional weakling who cannot cope with what life throws at him.

Exactly. Move him inside permanently on every down.

Do what the Colts did with Margus Hunt (6-8) and slide Buckner over to nose tackle.

Thomas is already at 280+. Change his off season training back to being inside every down like in college (normal), build up his base (weight training), increase his weight 5-10 pounds, refine his technique, make him compete...then see what happens.

Plenty huh? Want to name some?

Having a family member pass away due to a disease or old age isn't the same thing as your best friend & sibling kill herself.

We all deal with death at some point in our lives but with suicide it brings a whole different set of grief and questions.

But overall I agree with your post. He is a grown man and he's got a job to do. If he can't play well next year then it's over as tragic and unfortunate as his story may be he has to produce or be replaced.
bottom line ... Thomas was a miss at number three overall. Doesn't mean he isn't and wont end up being a solid football player and have a decent career. The number 3 overall pick is suppose to be a dynamic roster altering player. Thomas is just not that type of player and in my opinion, never will be.

I'd rather see Solly add some pounds and eat up double teams at Nose, more one on one match ups for Buck.
