Sure looks good on paper, until it doesn't. Again with the hype train. With our luck we'll beat the Raiders and Gruden tanks on purpose. Watch

He's not coming here. Dallas will block all lateral moves, and furthermore, Kris is already generating buzz as a head coach candidate.

Is Kris a DC now?

He's a DB coach right now for Dallas

Then Dallas can't block him if he's interested in being a DC here. Fangio was a lateral move, hence why he was able to be blocked by the Bears in 2016.

But it sounds moot either way.

He's a DB coach, but it doesn't make a difference. The NFL rules' categorizes coaches as either an Assistant Coach or a Head Coach. Dallas will block all attempts at lateral moves, which includes coordinator.

Per NFL Rules

LATERAL OPPORTUNITIES

Assistant coach to Non Head Coach opportunities

Note: "promotions" to coordinator level are NOT promotions under this policy; a coach is either an Assistant Coach or a Head Coach, period.

Huh, always thought as long as it's a position up, a team can't block. But yeah, if they only recognize those titles now, moot point.

What hype train? I'm predicting us to continue to suck and address our biggest need. Edge rusher lol

Thank you for this. Is this why we're seeing some coordinators hired with the assistant HC title attached?

Why do people constantly want to change coaches and GM's. This current staff needs a chance to show that they can win. One season and half of another is not enough. If we don't at least give these guys another year or two than we are going to end up being one of those teams that is always searching, always struggling and never winning. Every time you bring in a new regime you go thru a 2 or 3 year rebuild since they want their own guys. Then 2 or 3 years down the road we decide that the new guys suck and the process repeats. Remember when they came in they didn't promise instant success with the first year being pretty much an evaluation year. Since they hadn't been watching the team closely every week live us fans they had to see who was worth keeping and who had to go. Then you need to give the new players a year or two to show develop. Not every guy is going to come in and have instant success. We missed on Thomas but we won on Kittle and Breida. I didn't even know who Kittle and Breida were so I give them credit for finding those guys.

This all day! I do not think we will truly know what this FO, coaching, and players can really do until 2020 season. That will be 4 years that Lynch/Shanahan will have had. They got a lot of work to do and this team REALLY needs to get and stay healthy.

Excellent point tbh I didn't know any of those things and I've been a fan since the Hugh Mclhenney days lol

I'm not sure. That could be for compensation reasons.

Judging by how the NFL denotes coaches, I don't think "assistant HC" makes a difference. It's still an assistant coach by the rules' definition. It's black and white with coaches.

Yup, Cinci did it for yrs to Joseph when he was the DB coach.

Richard could plead his case on wanting to be the full time DC and ask for money. He could say he's like to go back to Cali (where he's from) and work with sherm again...all wishful thinking.

I brought this up earlier that I believe we made Norton jr the assistant HC for a reason. Wouldn't have been shocked if he was DC in waiting just in case Saleh fell flat on his face.

The level of histrionics on display by some individuals here never ceases to amaze. This is a team that was down in the crapper a couple of years ago and lost its starting QB and RB. It was always a stretch to believe Bethard could replace JimmyG and ALL of our young players became fixtures in the lineup. I'm disappointed most in Foster and Thomas right now but there is plenty of blame to go around. The defensive backfield has been atrocious and the front 4 can't get anywhere near the opponent's QB.

Having said that, I have never gotten the impression that the 49ers are losing because of a lack of coaching. Rather they are losing because, for the most part, a lof of the guys on the roster just aren't good enough.

We should actually do a hype train thread for the delusional young ones that make the entire fan base look uneducated.

Solomon Thomas was the safe pick. Reuben Foster was the risky pick. When they both consistently play like garbage it makes you look at all the guys we passed on. Sure a rookie GM gets a pass but at who's expense? I'm getting to old for this b******t I want 6 before I'm dead and cold. A new GM and hopefully Kris Richard as our DC. He's the guy that made Seattle nasty on D ask Richard Sherman

Kris Richard isn't coming here. I wanted him added to the coaching staff in the off-season while he was available but it didn't happen. Now in Dallas he's in the perfect spot. Their defensive coordinator (Marinelli) is pushing 70 and he's already started transitioning the playcalling over to Richard. It's just a matter of time now until Richard becomes the defensive coordinator in Dallas. I wouldn't be surprised if after the season, Marinelli moves into more of a senior advisor type role and they promote Richard to DC.

Kris Richard isn't coming here not even for a promotion and more money? At least that's what the world used to revolve around......money

The only way Richard comes is if he is granted permission to do so. With him looking like he is the coordinator in waiting, the cowboys have no reason to release him from his contract. They are in a perfect spot to pass torch from the much older Marinelli to Richard as soon as this upcoming off-season. Richard will get a raise when that happens.

Like I said don't expect him to be coming here.

The only way a team cannot block an assistant is for a head coach opportunity. Assistants get blocked every off-season from coordinator positions. The qb coach for the Vikings was blocked from interviewing for the Giants offensive coordinator position just this past off-season.
