Yeah, hash marks don't matter. As long as the QB is outside where the T lined up, it can't be IG (assuming ball makes it to the LoS).

But, it was in Seattle. Surprised Hoyer wasn't ejected

Edit - Based on thl's pictures, he is inside the box and didn't throw it near a receiver...so yeah, IG

Maybe I don't know what a tackle box is (holds lures and weights for fishing, right?) but isn't he well outside Staley?

When he throws it it looks like he is inside where Staley lined up (just inside the hash mark). The tackle box on that play is basically the hash marks. That being said, I always thought it was defined as the area between the tackles, extending back to your own goal line, but I see it is defined in some places as two yards to the outside of either tackle. I don't know. I think the two yard thing is a mistake, because the overwhelming majority of places list it as the area between the tackles, extending laterally (goal line to goal line).

Either way, Hoyer looks to be clearly inside the the area where both tackles lined up. Had he not thrown it 74 rows deep, there was a receiver in the area....kind of

Bad QB performance of the week goes to...Hoyer lol
You knew it was going to be a bad day for Hoyer when he overthrew Goodwin on the first drive. Not like Goodwin would have caught it anyway, but still.

Personally, while I hate seeing our team lose and would have loved to see our team beat the cawks, I'm not overly worried. This is all a rebuild and, strangely, when you have bad QB play, it doesn't hold the development of your rebuild back too much IMO. You can see the scheming is there, the players see it, they know it, and they know their QB just isn't getting it. So, they see that their hard work is paying off and will still believe in the system. They know Hoyer isn't the answer. It's different when it's 2 or 3 O-lineman or your defensive line. When those guys suck you can't tell if the other guys are good but you can't see it because they can't hold up the house. If you see your blocking is holding up but receivers aren't getting open - then you know it's not the O-line, you need receivers and your QB is a question mark. If your O-line holds up, your receivers get open and your QB can't make the throw - simple solution(though simple doesn't mean easy). Same with the defense.

I'm all in for a Kirk/Beathard face off next season! haha.....cue Cousins argument........now!

Gotcha...I like your explanation and that's probably accurate. I just remember having this exact conversation a couple years ago and learned that as long as the QB is outside the T, who can move in play, there is no IG.

Rules change though (as do my understanding of the rulers) so I'll be watching this one going forward.

We go two to three more games where Hoyer continues to prove that he's just an NFL backup and I say we put the young Beathard in.. we need to know now if we gonna need to draft a QB in the upcoming draft or not..

I'm with you, moon. We need to find out about CJ before we go after Cousins in FA or draft a Qb. I'm hoping Hoyer stinks it up so we can get Beathard in there.

eve if Cj plays. it's not going to change that we need to sign and draft better QBs
*We* don't need to know anything about Beathard. All that matters is what Shanahan needs to know, and most of that isn't from playing in a game yet.
Shanahan pretty much called out Hoyer and the passing game skill players in general on KNBR this morning, without being a d**k about it (as he would say).

Yeah we all knew what this yr was gonna be and if anyone thought we were magically gonna be good, you were only kidding yourself.

I'm not touching the Kirk cousins debate until the end of the yr...it will only turn into a teenage girl b***hfest in here lol.
