Who should be Baalke's replacement, if he finally gets fired?

I have a ton of respect for Bill Parcells and Belicheck and their coaching tree but I don't want our team to resemble theirs(besides the winning) We have our own legacy(WCO, Bill Walsh) and we should run with that

It doesn't always workout but Jed would gain a lot of respect in the Bay Area if he goes outside his inner circle.

It's only logical that Tom Gamble takes over, wouldn't it be nice to have a GM and coach that work together.

It'll definitely be Tom Gamble which means this s**t show won't be over for at least another 2-3 years. Jed is not willing or capable of hiring people who aren't his minions. When he does he cans them after a 44-16 record.

Tom Gamble comes on, we continue to suck but give Kelly 2 more years..then we fire both Gamble and Kelly. The Browns are then like "Well at least we aren't the Niners"

I remember he said something about being interested in joining with Brent Jones and becoming co-owners of the team.

But I'm sure if he would make a good GM or if he's interested. Elway seems to be doing a good job in Denver, though, despite the criticism he gets from his fanbase.

If it isn't inevitable it should be and the Niners need to make a GM change that can re-establish a 49er culture of winning. Some will argue that we should keep Trent but it just isn't possible anymore. If 80% (being safe with my estimate and I wouldn't be surprised if higher) of your fanbase wants a change and your product relies on your fanbase then you have to give them something to be excited about. With that in mind, here is my list of 49er GM candidates that you want on the team.

The old guys that 49er vets will be asking for but their time has probably passed us by

*Holmgrem and Shanahan: Are these guys still in the circle with other GMs and scouts? Do they know what quality college players look like now to transition to the new NFL?

*Parcells: Probably the golden boy's first pick for his affinity for the man but he hasn't been successful in a long time. At best, I would offer him an advisor position.

The new blood


*Nick Caserio (New England) and Eric DeCosta (Ravens): Probably the top candidates in the league but enjoy their current jobs too much and expect to one day take over.

*George Paton (Vikings): A close confidant of Spielman. One thing you can say about that organization is that it has culture of taking care of its players and doing what it needs to win. Trading a 1st for Bradford seems too rich but it at least shows the fans that the team does what is needed to win.

*Matt Russell (Broncos): Knows about a winning culture. Aside from that, not sure if he is qualified due to other issues.

*Terry McDonohough (Cardinals): Has a great resume and worked for winners - even has 49ers ties.

Hail Marys

*Nick Saban (Alabama): He won't leave Alabama but it would be so nice if we could offer him a blank check to run the organization but not coach. He is a master at finding the top talent, recruiting and getting people that fit in his system.

*Jim Harbaugh (Michigan): Mostly a joke but I feel like someone will bring up his name. Less than a 1% chance of happening but I wouldn't have a problem with offering him full control and saying we are so sorry and we messed up... Please come back

*Josh McDaniels (Patriots): Mentioning because someone will bring this up. It did not work the last time he coached and ran a team. I would not like this idea.


Any other names to add to the list? I know there are a bunch more.

Based on these options, my pick is Paton.

Scratch Harbs off the list. He would never work for Jed again.

It's all a moot point. Even if they do fire him, they are just going to promote Gamble. It's The York Way

Hell yes, with this much home grown talent oozing around this team, why look elsewhere?
