As far as I'm concerned the Rams and the Niners are still the gate keepers for the NFCW headed into this next season, but...am I excited that the Seahawks could come in and change all of it this year provided the right pieces were picked/drafted/traded and MM turns this team into what he wants it to be over the next few seasons. Am I excited that the Rams and the Niners could find themselves on their way down over the next few seasons with aging high paid veterans and/or having to make tough calls losing key players and depth when big contracts have no been made. Absolutely.

Appreciate the level head post. I'll be honest it's all over Twitter. Of course the way their algorithm works is if you interact with one post they throw another 50 like it your way so it may be tainted.

Twitter seems to feed whatever you don't want more than what you DO want. Liberal friends think twitter is all far right extremists. Conservative friends think it's all extreme left communists. I mostly just go there to look at specific feeds.

Trying to have a sports discussion on twitter just makes me miss forums :)

Saw that Richard Sherman went to Seahawks camp.

The Rams defense is one of the younger units in the league. Stafford, Devonta Adams, Higbee and Havenstein are the aging players on offense. We'll have to see how they address those issues. They did draft a tight end to be Higbee's heir apparent. Finding a quality receiver and right tackle is not as hard as replacing a good quarterback.

Stafford is the question mark. When he finally hangs it up will they have a replacement waiting in the wings or will they be in quarterback purgatory? If the Seahawks make the right moves the division could be there for the taking in a couple years. But I don't see Darnold as the future for that position. They could be in that dreaded quarterback purgatory too.

49ers are the only team that has solved the long term question mark at quarterback. Question is, how good will he be without an all star roster around him? He does seem to be more of a system QB/game manager that a guy who can carry a team.

This is the key for the Rams. Did they do enough to protect him? I certainly hope not lol. They have good weapons, great playcaller so they can protect him with a quick passing game and his intelligence and ability to adjust protection is a huge boost. But they played a long season, he's got a pretty good amount of attempts on that arm. Same amount as Aaron Rodgers who certainly doesn't look like the same guy he used to be.

Now is Stafford going to take care of his body like a Brady? I'm not seeing it. I think you could already see the decline last year. Should he get injured or just hit the father time wall earlier, they're not going far with Jimmy G. And let's not forget they barely won the division last year and despite our injuries and piss poor playing we really should've taken both games. Yes...should've would've could've...

The 49ers squad just needs to stay healthy but the big unknown for us is our young guys. We have a lot of rookies and 2nd year players who are expected to make big contributions this season. They all better bring their best but the coaching glow up on defense and ST gives me hope regardless.

Historically the best defense against McVay/Stafford is to not blitz and flood the short and middle zones. Which is exactly what Saleh loves to do and the 49ers roster is built to do ... assuming the line can stop the run and get pressure without the blitz.

I know I'm going to go way off topic here, but social media algorithms are designed to bring people things that make you angry. There are two reasons for this:

1) Anger gets way more engagement (clicks, likes, comments, shares, views)
2) As people find tons of things to be angry about throughout their lives and all of it being something completely outside of your control, it leads to hopelessness and depression. One of the easiest ways to get a break from depression is the quick dopamine hit of buying something online when you see an advertisement. Life sucks, I deserve to treat myself with this random NFL hoodie that's been subconsciously flashing in my face everyday for the last 3 months...that I would never have known about it hasn't been flashing this whole time.

There is absolutely no regulation for this and it's up to us to figure out when social media is basically destroying us as a society through the algorithm (notice how we no longer can get feeds based on just who we follow and in whatever is newest), so they can make more money off advertisements.

Whenever you see something that rages you online, click the ... button and just hit "don't show me this content anymore", and unfollow any profile that stoops to posting rage bait for clicks... you think it's an awesome meme funny page for people with similar mindsets, but they're just using you too to get engagement and line their own pockets.

I too suggest blocking people who are just trying to make people angry. I also suggest you limit your time on social media to a limited window each week, or each day if you can't manage weekly.

Realistically 15 minutes a day should be more than enough.

I appreciate your response as well. I think there is no shortage of horrible human beings out there for truly any side of any topic there is, and if we want to look for an example of why that side is horrible, it's always right at your finger tips. It's human nature to do that and with today's day and age of ease of recording/posting we have all that we need to build/support any narrative. Heck even as I write this, maybe I am truly mistaken that very (or no one) is truly a horrible person, but we're all human and can be caught in an unhinged moment of our lives and that's all that is needed.

I appreciate this post. I have recently found myself slipping back into way too much time spent on social media and it really does nothing for my life but waste time and bring negative energy. Thanks for the reminder. Oh and blocking people who are just trying to make people angry is a good one too, I do a decent job of unfollowing certain pages/influencers who do that, but I have "friends" that are constantly blowing up social media with "awareness" that really is just meant to enrage. Perhaps I don't block them (I'd like to maintain friendships if possible), but I can certainly mute their stories and just focus on my actual friendships with them.

Back on topic. I saw Earl Thomas is doing some kind of fan event i believe in Arizona soon, he called out the 12s to come see him. The comments were still pretty negative because of his middle finger incident. I do struggle with Earl Thomas, as a player he was amazing, founding member of the LOB, the Seahawks don't get their Superbowl win without him. At the same time, he was totally a head case, we all saw the incident with his brother. If he were a Niner that brought similar success, but also a ton of ugly off-field stuff, as a fan with enough time, do you forgive all that as the time goes by? or do you hold it against him forever? Maybe for Earl not enough time has passed.

I decided years ago that I can put up with crazy in athletes as long as it's not destructive to other people around them. Charles Haley was literally crazy. He was so crazy the 49ers traded one of the best D-Ends to their biggest opponent for basically garbage. The kind of sad thing we learned many years later was that he was horrible and abusive to teammates and a few teammates kept him enough in line, but that only got him to the point he got into a physical altercation with Jerry Rice ... he was gone within a week. Gilbert Arenas and Latrell Sprewell were other examples of destructive crazy.

At the same time there were several crazy people who were not bad people, they were just crazy.

I can support crazy, not so much evil crazy :)

As a fan of Charles Haley, I can attest to the fact that you can eventually forgive the "headcase" stuff. It stings pretty bad for awhile, but the nostalgia eventually wins out.
Week 1 the Sam Darnold revenge game, should be good. Rebuilt Seahawks offense vs rebuilt Niners defense

Hasn't it already been proven that the shortened pre-season schedule has shown itself in the first few games of the season as well (for all teams).

Yep. With the offseason programs massively hamstrung already, coaches just treat the first few weeks of the regular season as the rest of camp. Somewhat. They are more serious about it than pre-season games, but teams are more likely to install less than the whole playbook in camp and not finish the install until after the start of the regular season.

I wonder if there is more roster turnover now than there was in the late 90s? It feels like there is.
