Bosa vs Chargers

The chargers are about as inept as us, FO wise. Plain and simple.

No comparison. SD have the worst ownership/FO.

I have a feeling this is going to happen to the Chargers again if that's their policy. I'd love to see Bosa at a value pick in next yrs draft though, wouldn't it be something if the Chargers stuck it to him by redrafting him

If Bosa re-enters the draft the Chargers cannot re-draft him.

I see their point but the fact still remains, SD does not do business that way and that's the team he got drafted to. There is nothing that says they have to remove the offset language and/or pay the entire bonus after year 1. Just because other teams do it (mostly typical bottom feeders anyways), does not mean they have to do it. The ball is in SD's court

Just because Bosa was drafted by San Diego doesn't mean he has to sign a below market contract with them either. Bosa's family is pretty well off, and the Chargers have equally as much to lose as he does by him not signing a contract. Losing a top 3 pick, and setting an unprecedented standard in bad negotiating faith is not something a team really wants to have happen to them. It's not really a bottom feeder thing either, Cam Newton and Von Miller got those terms put into their rookie contracts for the SB teams last season. It's standard negotiating proceedure for those picks.

Even think about it on a fairness level, Bosa's unique skillset is worth far more on an open market than the contract he's going to receive even best case scenario from the slotted deal. His labor rights were negotiated by players who had incentive to create this slotting system so they'd gain more money for themselves as NFL veterans. He's stuck in an exclusive negotiating window with one firm, and they're trying to strong arm him into signing a below market contract. If anybody thinks the Chargers are in the right here, I just don't understand.

bosa

bosa camp caved to everything the only standing point is he wants his signing bonus when he signs the contract and not after the year

i think thats reasonable in fact i dont know any team that gives signing bonus after and not when contract is signed
If you think the York's are inept, be glad you're not a Charger's fan. The Spanos' family are as inept as they come. This is all history repeating itself, remember the Eli manning/Rivers trade fiasco, firing Schottenheimer after a 12 and 4 season, chasing LT and Drew breeze out of town, screwing the city of San Diego out of negotiating a new stadium there since 2004? They do whatever the hell they want no matter how stupid it looks to everybody else.

Hmm

Eli Manning / Rivers trade fiasco. vs Alex Smith / Kap trade fiasco.
Firing Schotty after 12-4 season. vs Firing Harbaugh after 3 straight NFCCG and a SB appearance.
Chasing LT and Breeze out of town vs Chasing all the "retired" FA players out of town.
Screwing the city of SD vs Screwing the city of SF

sounds the same to me
Oh, I almost forgot when the Spanos' changed training camps from the beautiful Torrey Pines area in San Diego, to the ugly, gross and smog filled Carson City. The whole county of San Diego were flabbergasted and disgusted.

I think you're strawmannirg a little bit here.... The Eli/Rivers trade happened on "Draft Day", shocking the entire league and fan base. Alex got hurt, Kap played well, so Alex got traded. Harbaugh was fired after going 8 and 8, and the team was on the decline, SD was peaking. As far as stadiums, York at least got a stadium built, Spanos' have been trying since 2000 and still don't know where they'll end up. LT and Breeze are HOFers, that could still play, Patrick Willis and Justin Smith retired due to injuries and couldn't play anymore. Apples and oranges bro. At best maybe you could say the Spanos' are the York's on drugs. lol

And what is this Bull about chasing the "retired" FA players out of town? SoCold if you are just going to rewrite history and post fiction maybe you should find a storybook forum instead. As you well know, Justin Smith and Patrick Willis retired because they felt they had to, they certainly weren't chased out of town, and neither was Chris Borland. Whilst the situation regarding Anthony Davis was less amicable he certainly wasn't chased into retirement, he made the decision himself.

Stop trolling.

If SD refuses to cave, they stand to have blown the 3rd overall pick because of the FO foolishness trying to set their own precedent. Bosa on the other hand can go back into the draft and end up playing for another team, albeit for less money than he would get now and losing a year but he still gets paid and gets a chance to play and if he can play up to his talent level then he still stands to make bank on his second contract.

SD has more to lose here than Bosa by not giving Bosa what the precedent has set. If this exact same issue happened with Buckner, would you be blaming DeFo or Baalke/York ?

wow look at all the butt hurt.

If you're gonna call SD the worst current FO in the NFL then 49ers are either tied for worst or 2nd worst lol

Its up to the Chargers to cave ultimately. Bosa is hurting in terms of being behind as a rookie and taking longer to get his career going but that is a short term issue. San Diego is not only pissing off a top draft pick but they are hurting themselves when it comes to future draft picks and free agents. This is for a team that is supposedly trying to get a stadium built in San Diego.
