His hand size blows my mind. I envision him picking up R.Wilson by the helmet, bringing him up to eye level, asking him where the fuc he thought he was going, then throwing him to Seattle's bench

Can you imagine if you got a single hand on Russell Wilson, let alone both?
I imagine this

I guess I don't understand the connection between huge hands and ability to play football.

If you have to get punched in the face, and both guys have equal skill, do you choose the guy with the average sized hand or the guy with the hand bigger than your face?

For a DL bigger hands help with leverage, controlling the blocker as well as the initial punch, plus a wider radius for knocking down passes.

Thanks for the insight, but I still don't think hand size is a predictor.

I never heard anyone refer to Derrick Thomas or Lawrence Taylor's hand size as a reason as to why they could get to the QB.

Is there any position in football where having smaller hands or shorter arms is an advantage?

Zack Thomas and Sam Mills come to mind, not preferred but I would look at a guys heart before I look at his hand size as a predictor for success is all I am saying.

This is kind of a pointless argument youre making. You dont draft a guy solely on measurables, that is how you get busts. But if you have the talent AND the measurables that is a huge +++++

Buckner has both. So in his case, yeah having long arms and big hands does make a difference.

Having measurables alone wont make you a great player but take a super talented guy and give him freakish measurables and you have a monster.

Got it, and for the record I was only talking about big hands not long arms.

Both are a ++++ for a DL but you dont draft a guy just for those traits.

With Buckner, with another 10-15 pounds you have pretty much the master mold for a 4 technique in terms of physical traits and aptitude.

The fact that Buckner is 6'7, 305 lbs, and isnt even overweight is insane.

All muscle, the dude is as thick as a tree trunk... I know how that sounded

Dont mess with The Lumberjack.

You're reeaallyy trying to make this 'lumberjack' thing happen, huh?
that doesn't sound correct as he's a Polynesian

Was thinking the same thing! LOL! One big canoe paddler? Just doesn't have the right ring...

Its a humorous play on his first name. Deforestation....Lumberjack....Went to Oregon....Tough and manly sounding, etc.

Its better than most of the stupid, generic, void of all creativity nicknames that people come up with on here.

Probably not. Let's root for the kid. He was awesome in college, seems to have his head on straight, and now gets to be coached by Jimmy T. the best darn DLine coach in the ... wait.

Hopefully he'll get more than the 375 snaps AA got last year.
D-Fo it is.
Was quasi-pleased with the pick. Would have preferred we went with Tunsil and then picked a DE later. But ultimately am good with how things turned out.
