Vernon is expected to command 13-15 million PER YEAR and stats wise is not that much better than Brooks!!! So ya, I am pretty sure Baalke will stick with Brooks.

Like I said before, 6.5 mil for a 3 down linebacker pretty much guaranteed to get 40 tackles and 6.5 sacks is a STEAL.

Why are you trying to glorify 40 tackles in a season that's not even 3 tackles a game

$162,500 a tackle, lol
if he put "consistent pressure" on the QB , and led by example and inspired younger players to go hard on game day, then maybe we'd be talking about ways to keep him ?

but he has been "inconsistent", ...has quit on the team and chose to pout and sulk instead (when Lynch was given more snaps) , he has made it easy to move on and look for his replacement , and you cant put that on the front office when longtime fans have noticed his drop off in production, and lack of inspired play

We are trying to build something for the future. The key word for next year is progress. Brooks is done making progress in his career. He consistently comes to camp overweight, constantly gets in trouble, and only impacts the locker room negatively. Remember him smashing a team over the head with a beer bottle in a drunken brawl? I'll gladly leave a few sacks on the table if Eli Harold gets more playing time, Carradine is given the chance to try OLB, and a young guy with potential gets a roster spot to develop. Next year is about building a base for the future, not clinging to statistics. Brooks does not make this team better.

Gotta keep brooks he's very underrated.
takes stupid penalties and he was lazy and overpaid this season. we can do better
He needs to be cut or restructured, he is a 9.6 million dollar cap hit this year. THATS MORE THAN BOWMAN

Other people around the same amount are
Corey Liguet
Cameron Wake
Earl Thomas
Geno Atkins
Chris Harris Jr

I take it you don't know much about 3-4 pass rushers.

Von Miller had 35 tackles last year BTW.
I have alot of respect for Brooks. Went from the supplemental draft to being a solid player not to mention the tragedies he's delt with in life. Drew Brees worst nightmare. I hope he takes a cut and stays on.

I remember that play. It cracks me up to see that again.

About Brooks - I'm in the "keep him if he reduces his salary" group. His penalties and occasional attitude problems bother me some, but I think he is worth keeping for a reduced price. He's so-so as a pass rusher but he has generally been very good at setting the edge on run plays, playing screens well and containing scrambling quarterbacks. I do hope Harold and Carradine show up well next year (plus the addition of at least one solid FA and one promising draft prospect), but for the right price I think Brooks is worth keeping. That said, I think it's more likely than not that he won't be back next year.

Dude, ease up on the "lol"

It's childish and rediculous.
It wasn't his style when the team had very few needs and no/little cap room.

He is way overpaid, is an average OLB, and has been having team commitment issues. He gets too frustrated during the game and is too emotional. If he wants to take a paycut, im all for it but hell no should we keep him for his 2016 price tag. We can cut him and puts that money towards a better OLB like oliver vernon, tamba hali, or demarcus ware when he gets cut.

Sure, cut him if and when we find a better player. Until then, we have no-one on the team to replace him.

And I doubt very much Baalke will throw the bank at any one of those 3 pass rushers. That's not his style..

We have a TON of cap space we must use, even more if Brooks and Kaep come off the books. When you have 60 to 70 million of which you must spend 40, there may not be a choice...

Also may I point out that Baalke just gave Smith the richest FA contract the 49ers have ever given just last season? Its not like Baalke is a Ted Thompson clone.
