TO > Marvin Harrison

The fact Harrison made it in and TO didn't even make the top 15 cut is embarrassing for the voters.
The idea that Owens shouldnt be a 1st ballot HOFer or a HOFer in general because he was an a*****e, is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

Just think of all the players they would have to remove from the Hall of Fame in football and baseball if being an a-hole was the criteria.
The reality is most hof's have media members who vote people in. If you were a doosh but have the stats you'll get in, the media guys will just make you wait a few years. I don't agree with it but it's kinda the way it is. Now if you are a 50/50 where people aren't fully sold on you as a HOFer AND you were a doosh, you have very little chance

Just as I thought. You don't even know.

Owens was deactivated in 2005 because he refused to apologize to McNabb. Owens was told he could stay on the team if he apologized to McNabb for agreeing with Michael Irvin's assessment that the Eagles would be undefeated with Brett Favre as the starting QB.

It was only when Owens refused to apologize to McNabb that they deactivated him.

They didn't deactivate him for "dividing the locker room" or "hurting team chemistry." They deactivated him because he offended their starting douchebag 2-time DUI, "I'm the most unfairly criticized QB in NFL history," "waaaaah, Rush Limbaugh, waaaaah," "that's black on black crime!" quarterback and refused to apologize for it. McNabb has some of the thinnest skin of any QB in NFL history.

And he can dish it but he can't take it. When Owens was rehabbing from the broken leg before the SB, McNabb told the media, "we do NOT need Terrell Owens to win this football game." He was Cam Newton before Cam Newton.

And of course, it also coincided with a contract dispute. A contract dispute that never would have happened if David Joseph had faxed the paper work on time to void Owens's contract in 2004 so he'd have free agency and have the leverage to negotiate a proper deal.

It's too bad "TO" got in the way of Terrell Owens' career. His legendary negative antics clearly had an affect on becoming a first ballot HoFer despite clearly having an on field career worthy of it. There's no way in hell he doesn't get in next year. This was clearly an unfair punishment by those with votes for all his BS over the years. It's unfair, but he made the bed he lies in. Nobody but Terrell is to blame.
An interesting time line:

2000 - During an October contest in Dallas, Owens celebrated scoring a touchdown by running to midfield of Texas Stadium and posing on the star logo of the Cowboys. He later repeated his actions following another TD and was blindsided by the Cowboys' George Teague.

2001 - After blowing a 19-point lead in Chicago and losing in overtime, the disgruntled receiver accused head coach Steve Mariucci of protecting good friend Dick Jauron, head coach of the Bears

2002 - In an October contest on Monday Night Football in Seattle, Owens pulled a 'Sharpie' marker out of his sock after catching a TD pass. He then proceeded to autograph the ball and hand it to his financial adviser sitting in an end zone luxury suite rented by Shawn Springs, the CB he had just beaten on the play.

2002 - After scoring a touchdown in a December contest with the Green Bay Packers, Owens celebrated with a pair of Pom-Poms borrowed from a 49ers cheerleader.

2003 - Following a bumpy season that included several sideline tirades by Owens, he and the team decided to part ways.

2004 - Owens' agent failed to meet a free agency deadline in March, making him ineligible to become a free agent. Because they retained his rights, the 49ers then traded him to the Baltimore Ravens, but Owens refused to report to his new team. He expressed his desire to play in Philadelphia, and filed a grievance, claiming he should be granted free agency. After a series of negotiations, a deal was worked out between the three teams which sent Owens to Philadelphia where he signed a seven-year, $49 million deal against the advice of the players' union.

2004 - In an interview with Playboy magazine, Owens hinted that ex-teammate Jeff Garcia was gay, a claim he later recanted.

2004 - In a November contest with the Baltimore Ravens, after scoring a touchdown, Owens openly mocked Ray Lewis by performing the middle linebacker's trademark celebration dance.

2004 - In a Monday Night contest later that month, Owens appeared in a controversial skit to kick off the network's presentation of the game which resulted in an FCC investigation.

2005 - Owens hired agent Drew Rosenhaus in April and announced he was not happy with his contract. He also tells CNBC that, despite making $7.5 million in 2004, he needs a new contract to "feed his family."

2005 - After hinting that he might hold out of training camp, Owens shows up with a bad attitude, refusing to acknowledge the media or speak to his teammates. After a confrontation with head coach Andy Reid, he was suspended for one week.

2005 - During an interview with ESPN's Graham Bensinger on November 3, Owens took shots at the Eagles franchise for not publicly recognizing his 100th touchdown catch. During the interview he stated the Eagles showed a "lack of class". He also suggested the Eagles would be better off with Packers QB Brett Favre instead of Donovan McNabb.

2005 - On November 4, Owens issued a half-hearted apology through the media, but failed to deliver comments regarding Donovan McNabb, which head coach Andy Reid insisted he include.

2005 - Owens was suspended November 5 by the Eagles for the club's contest against the Washington Redskins on November 6.

2005 - On November 7, Owens' suspension was stretched to four games, and head coach Andy Reid added that Owens would not play for the remainder of the season.

2006 - On March 14, the Eagles cut Owens just one day before he was due a $5 million roster bonus.

2006 - On July 5, Owens released a tell-all book revealing his side of the story associated with his time in Philadelphia.

2006 - On July 13, Owens claimed he was misquoted in his autobiography. Owens blamed the use of the word 'heroic" in association with his return for Super Bowl XXXIX on his co-author.

2006 - On August 3, Owens missed the first of 14 consecutive days of practice because of a hamstring problem despite an MRI two days later revealing no major problems. After returning to practice for several days, Owens claimed he re-aggravated the injury because his coaches pushed him back to the playing field too soon. This time he didn't return to practice until August 29.

2006 - On August 10, while still out with an injured hamstring, Owens drew attention to himself by wearing the silver and blue uniform of Lance Armstrong's Discovery Channel pro cycling team while riding a stationary bicycle on the sidelines.

2006 - On September 26, Owens was taken by ambulance to Baylor University Medical Center for what was thought to be a suicide attempt. The following day, Owens denied trying to kill himself, claiming a mixture of pain pills and supplements caused him to be "out of it" when talking to emergency respondents

2006 - On October 11, Owens had a run-in with receivers coach Todd Haley. After being chastised for showing up late for practice (he later explained he was in the bathroom), Owens and Haley tangled during a meeting later in the day.

2006 - On December 16, in a victory over the Atlanta Falcons, Owens spit in the face of cornerback DeAngelo Hall.

Actually, he's never getting in. He didn't even make the cut to the Top 10. The media is to blame for all of it.

You're just a TO hater if you think he's never getting in.

You're also delusional if you think TO didn't bring even the slightest of this upon himself.

2000 - During an October contest in Dallas, Owens celebrated scoring a touchdown by running to midfield of Texas Stadium and posing on the star logo of the Cowboys. He later repeated his actions following another TD and was blindsided by the Cowboys' George Teague.

It was actually September. September 24th, to be specific. Don't expect media to check their facts, though.

They fail to mention that the second time he did it, he was responding to Emmitt Smith having done it.

2001 - After blowing a 19-point lead in Chicago and losing in overtime, the disgruntled receiver accused head coach Steve Mariucci of protecting good friend Dick Jauron, head coach of the Bears
Not really. Owens never said the words, "Dick Jauron," at all. Owens said he hoped the fact that they blew the lead would make Mariucci reconsider his philosophy about running up the score on teams, and that he thinks Mariucci sometimes tries to spare other teams embarrassment. The Dick Jauron part was media editorialization, because Mariucci and Jauron had been friends, and Owens used the term, "buddy system."

This was extremely mild compared to numerous other criticisms players have had of their coaches. You should see what Clinton Portis said about Jim Zorn, for example.

But at the time, the media was hammering home the Owens vs. Mariucci narrative because of the dispute over the star celebrations, which Mariucci personally suspended him for and publicly condemned. Meanwhile, Odell Beckham Jr tries to take Josh Norman's head off with cheap shots and Tom Coughlin says he'd take a bullet for Beckham Jr. Coughlin's got a back bone.
Which Springs had no problem with. And Mariucci had apparently learned his lesson and stood up for Owens this time. Was that so hard?

2002 - After scoring a touchdown in a December contest with the Green Bay Packers, Owens celebrated with a pair of Pom-Poms borrowed from a 49ers cheerleader.

Totally egregious behavior. Give him the death penalty.

2003 - Following a bumpy season that included several sideline tirades by Owens, he and the team decided to part ways.
Several tirades? They once caught him yelling on the sidelines at Greg Knapp while they were losing 28-0 to the Vikings and just got stopped on 4th down. They also don't mention that the team decided to part ways with Garcia, Hearst, Deese, and Stone that same off-season, and those guys were cut. They weren't guys who tried to void their contracts and had a paperwork mishap that led to them requesting a trade. Tai Streets and Jed Weaver also walked in free agency uncontested, making it 7 offensive starters existing in one off-season.

What isn't mentioned is that Donahue told the Eagles and Owens that they could start negotiating a new contract and then when the Ravens came forward offering a 2nd round pick, he basically told the Eagles to go f themselves and rapidly moved him to the Ravens rather than continuing with trade negotiations.

Anyway, the fact that each party was afraid of losing in the grievance is why the settlement worked out that nobody got what they wanted. The 49ers didn't get the 2nd round pick and Terrell Owens didn't get the big contract that he would've gotten on the open market with actual leverage. Instead, he got a heavily backloaded deal that would pay him only peanuts in the 2nd year.

2004 - In an interview with Playboy magazine, Owens hinted that ex-teammate Jeff Garcia was gay, a claim he later recanted.

Well, at least they got the year correct. And the ex-teammate part. He was as much a teammate of Garcia's as we were, and many of us did more than hint Garcia was gay. And of course, it's never mentioned that Playboy specifically asked him if he thought he was gay. This again demonstrates Owens's lack of actual intent in these scenarios.

2004 - In a November contest with the Baltimore Ravens, after scoring a touchdown, Owens openly mocked Ray Lewis by performing the middle linebacker's trademark celebration dance.

After Ray Lewis had badmouthed him all week, talking about how he stabbed him in the back by not going to Baltimore. Poor murderer.

2004 - In a Monday Night contest later that month, Owens appeared in a controversial skit to kick off the network's presentation of the game which resulted in an FCC investigation.

Nicollette Sheridan dropping her towel. This was totally Owens's fault, too. He totally wrote the skit and directed it.

2005 - Owens hired agent Drew Rosenhaus in April and announced he was not happy with his contract. He also tells CNBC that, despite making $7.5 million in 2004, he needs a new contract to "feed his family."

He never, EVER said he needed it to "feed his family." This is a complete misquote. Owens said, "it's about my family." Eagles radio dimwits changed it to "feeding his family."

2005 - After hinting that he might hold out of training camp, Owens shows up with a bad attitude, refusing to acknowledge the media or speak to his teammates. After a confrontation with head coach Andy Reid, he was suspended for one week.
The bad attitude part is true, but it was just pouting/sulking. Reid got caught in the middle of his dispute with the front office over his contract. It was just one argument that resulted in Reid telling Owens to go home and cool off for a week. Reid and Owens are still friends to this day.

He was specifically asked about both of these. The first part is true, which he apologized for. The second part is a misrepresentation. Owens was asked what he thought of Michael Irvin's comment that the Eagles would be undefeated if Brett Favre was the starting quarterback. The words, "Donovan McNabb," were never uttered once during the entire exchange.

McNabb was playing with a sports hernia at the time. A sports hernia he needed surgery on (and would have 2 weeks later). Favre was healthy. Instead of reading into it as Favre being better than an injured McNabb, they read into it as a personal attack on McNabb.

Remember, when Favre was brought up in the HOF meeting the other day....the argument was...."Brett Favre."

Does this get the same reaction if, say, someone asks about a comment that a team would have a better record if Michael Jordan was the starting shooting guard...and the starting shooting guard is...I dunno, John Starks playing with a sports hernia? Because that's pretty darn close to a good analogy in this situation.

2005 - On November 4, Owens issued a half-hearted apology through the media, but failed to deliver comments regarding Donovan McNabb, which head coach Andy Reid insisted he include.

Yep. Although "half-hearted" is completely subjective. What did they want, him to shed tears over saying the organization showed a lack of class in not acknowledging his 100th touchdown catch after they'd blown off his request to renegotiate his contract?

2005 - Owens was suspended November 5 by the Eagles for the club's contest against the Washington Redskins on November 6.

Yes.

2005 - On November 7, Owens' suspension was stretched to four games, and head coach Andy Reid added that Owens would not play for the remainder of the season.
Yes. But this was already announced at the same time as the suspension for the Redskins game. For not apologizing to McNabb. Had he apologized to McNabb, he would've stayed on the team. It's that simple.

2006 - On March 14, the Eagles cut Owens just one day before he was due a $5 million roster bonus.
Matter of formality.

2006 - On July 5, Owens released a tell-all book revealing his side of the story associated with his time in Philadelphia.
Written by Jason Rosenhaus.

2006 - On July 13, Owens claimed he was misquoted in his autobiography. Owens blamed the use of the word 'heroic" in association with his return for Super Bowl XXXIX on his co-author.

His co-author was the only actual writer. He never said he was "misquoted." He said in listening to the part about how his return from the injury was "heroic," he wouldn't have used the word, "heroic." He said that he thought the word should be reserved for firefighters or police officers.

This is where the media got so ludicrous it was a parody of itself. Owens had hamstring problems, just as Hines Ward and Steve Smith did at the same time. When guys have hamstring problems in camp, they sit out practices. This was ESPN at its laughable worst. "He's faking the hamstring injury!" Right. Because he's got every motive to do that while trying to get a fresh start. Meanwhile, his teammates say he's a ridiculously hard worker.

2006 - On August 10, while still out with an injured hamstring, Owens drew attention to himself by wearing the silver and blue uniform of Lance Armstrong's Discovery Channel pro cycling team while riding a stationary bicycle on the sidelines.

"Drew attention to himself." Right. It wasn't him reacting humorously to the ridiculous amount of attention that was on him over a freak'n hamstring problem or anything.

2006 - On September 26, Owens was taken by ambulance to Baylor University Medical Center for what was thought to be a suicide attempt. The following day, Owens denied trying to kill himself, claiming a mixture of pain pills and supplements caused him to be "out of it" when talking to emergency respondents

Said pills were prescribed to him for a broken finger he suffered in the prior game. Bill Parcells noted days before this happened that the pills had made him sick and he'd been prescribed a milder form of the medication. He said he ran out of the milder form of the medication and took the hydrocodone because he was in a lot of pain after rehab.

Such a far-fetched tale. It's much more believable that Owens coincidentally decided to suddenly try to kill himself with medication he had just been prescribed for an injury he just so happened to suffer in a football game.

But clearly, the media knows better than the doctors who let him leave the hospital the next morning and resume practice and the police who changed the report.

2006 - On October 11, Owens had a run-in with receivers coach Todd Haley. After being chastised for showing up late for practice (he later explained he was in the bathroom), Owens and Haley tangled during a meeting later in the day.

Todd Haley.

Might be the most hated coach in all of football. Bill Parcells even punched him on the sidelines once.

2006 - On December 16, in a victory over the Atlanta Falcons, Owens spit in the face of cornerback DeAngelo Hall.
Accidentally while Hall was in his face as they were talking smack. Hall tried to make it sound like a Bill Romanowski situation. For some reason, none of the 80 cameras focused on Owens the entire game captured footage of this.

Clark Judge and Jason Cole will never vote for him. He'll have to wait for a lot of these journalist voters to die off to have any shot.

The only part in this Owens played was in his touchdown celebrations. If you think he deserves it because of the touchdown celebrations, use that as your argument. I think that's ludicrous, but at least the decision to celebrate the touchdowns the way he did was something that was actually in his control.

The rest of it was out of his hands. Completely.

You don't believe me?

Nobody, NOBODY, goes as far as you are to justify the outrageous antics of a player like TO unless there's a vested interest somehow. So tell us, jim, what's your deal. How can somebody say TO is completely innocent of every single negative report that has ever been made about a guy like TO? How? Why? What is your motive here? Are you really TO? Nobody could possibly think TO is completely innocent of every single accusation. Terrell Owens has said many times himself that he is not completely innocent of his bad rep. I mean, that is if you're not actually TO. So please, explain your motive here so the rest of us at least have some sort of context as to where you're coming from. I mean, if TO says he earned some of his rep, why don't you?
My bad. I was just informed as to what is going on here. Please continue the fight.

No, Owens says things like, "I'm not perfect" because he knows that's yet another criticism of him. People accuse him of being unable to accept blame/fault.

How can somebody say this? Because this somebody actually knows what happened. This person did the research. This person knows the history. You're unwilling to consider the possibility that you don't actually know what you think you do.
