Yes he probably would've been cut but that doesn't mean he'll land with the Niners, it's a conditional pick..maybe a 7th at best at 6. The team have a lot of picks might as well use it on a player with lots of potential. Seattle gave up a 5th for a player that might have gotten cut too, but to be sure you get your guy your just going to give up a pick. It is what it is, he might become one of the best center in the league one day.

And can you guarantee that he wouldnt have been picked up on waivers before the 49ers were up?
The success rate of 7th rounders is like 10%, a small price to pay if you really like a guy. People get upset when the front office gains 7th rounders, they complain when the front office trades them away, I can only conclude that a whole lot of people are just insane.

I'm both surprised and not surprised anyone would be bothered by trading a 7th round pick for a possible diamond in the rough center with possible starting potential after being the best rated center in the pre-season this year.
Considering the state of our OL, I lean more towards being surprised ANYone would be upset we did something we thought would help upgrade the team before the regular season.

These are the same tools upset Brooks will be starting game 1 for us AFTER the league chose not to place him on the list. These so-called fans should spend more time in the Jarryd Hayne thread to learn what fandom is supposed to look like.

Some posters are afraid to see anything positive but to quote one of my favorite authors, John Connolly: "There is always hope. If we choose to abandon it, our souls will turn to ash and blow away."

49ers waived C Nick Easton.
Easton was acquired from the Ravens right before final cuts. He didn't play a single snap for the 49ers.
