Terrell Owens Thread: Hall of Fame?

Ever heard Mooch talk about Rice being a massive diva when TO became No.1. Rice forced his way back into a blowout because TO had a huge game. Rice was every bit the diva TO was. He was just smart enough to not do it through the media. Sideline antics happened though. No one cared to show it back then.

Odd that such an elite talent changed teams so often while in his prime

What, twice, with one of them being when he filed for free agency, his agent missed the deadline, and he requested a trade from a team that let go of 6 other offensive starters in a rebuilding year?

Lol more excuses

Excuses for what?

The 49ers tried to extend Owens's contract in the off-season before the 2003 season, and Owens and his agent were asking for outrageous money and they couldn't get a deal done. The 49ers knew before the 2003 season that it was going to be Owens's last with them because he was going to file for free agency, yet for some reason they didn't trade him before that. Yeah, sounds like they "couldn't wait to get rid of him" to me.

The revisionist history with Owens is incredible. I've never seen anything quite like it.

SteveWallacesHelmet challenged people about 50 times to name a single instance of Owens bashing a teammate and nobody could come up with even a single actual example.

No, Rice just never did controversial touchdown celebrations, which was what led to the media putting T.O. under a microscope and bashing him for every little thing/making crap up about him to justify continuing to vilify him.

Rice actually publicly said a lot of stuff that would've gotten T.O. destroyed. For instance, after a 31-20 win against the Saints during the 1998 season, Rice complained about how this (Rice not getting the ball) "wasn't 49ers football," and "could it make me retire? Hell yeah."

Sure but Hurt feelings shouldn't keep em out.
IMO, it's ridiculous that he isn't in already, but it's also ridiculous that one side refuses to understand why. It don't make it right, but it makes sense.

You mean besides Donovan McNabb? I don't recall that he ever had much nice to say about Jeff Garcia either but it was a long time ago and my memory on the subject is probably faulty. Regardless of what his teammates may or may not have thought of him, management usually wanted him gone and since they're the ones that sign the checks it's usually their opinion that matters
The reason why he's not in the HOF is because the writers are racist AF.

He never bashed McNabb while he was his teammate. Same with Garcia.

Management didn't want him gone. That's revisionist history. The 49ers tried to extend his contract before the 2003 season and his asking price was too much for them. That basically meant his 49ers career would be over after 2003, since he was about to hit free agency (until his agent missed the deadline to void his contract and requested a trade). Owens and his agent also asked to be left unprotected for the expansion draft in 2002 and the 49ers refused, instead having Steve Mariucci fly out to Atlanta to meet with him and make up with him for throwing Owens to the wolves after the Dallas star celebrations in 2000.

In Philadelphia, Andy Reid wanted him on the team; so much so that he made him a deal that he could stay on the team if he did all the apologizing he asked for after ESPN took his answer to the Irvin/Favre question out of context (that question was a follow up to Owens saying the Eagles' record would be better if McNabb wasn't injured, but they edited out the previous question). If was only when Owens refused to apologize to McNabb for the out-of-context interview clip that Reid suspended him. The night before the grievance hearing, Owens and Reid actually spoke on the phone and had tentative agreed to a plan to let Owens come back. Reid called him back later and said the deal was off, so somebody nixed it. Considering Reid was actually the Eagles' acting GM at the time, it was either the owner and/or McNabb who blocked it.
