Why do people in here keep saying this. The team did not just "give him" $9 million. He is playing in 2018 under his rookie deal, so they are paying him whatever that amount is for this season. IF he is still on the team at the beginning of the next league year, which starts in March of 2019, or if he is injured as of that date then they will owe him the guaranteed amount for his option year. If he gets through the season without injury and the team decides to cut ties with him then they can do so before March and not be on the hook for a single dime of that $9 Million.
On the subject of opinions. Seems to me that one can't really have an opinion unless they are cognizant of the pertinent facts surrounding the topic under discussion. They can have a reaction. Not an opinion. And no, they aren't the same thing.
Not to mention from a business standpoint Armstead now has a motive for finding his way to IR, cashing in a 9 million dollar pay day. After 2019 Its possible he doesn't see that much money over the rest of his NFL career.
He also has motive to play at a high level... big money long term deal, be it here or on the open market.
He is not going to purposely try to get injured just to get 9 mill for one year, and that is what it seems you implied.
I'm implying he has 9 million reasons to hit the IR asap.
A big money LTD deal > One year at 9 million
