That dude was just HOF-special. Guys in a two-gap scheme are not supposed to open up that many sacks for another (by playing selfless) and on top of that, adding a great number of sacks and pressures. That's just not normal. LOL

Honestly, if he had a few seasons like that in Cincinnati, he'd get HOF looks.

Most defensively.

LOL...it's more about the idea we might now have a couple DL that will either command double teams or can effectively block into a couple OL freeing up others on stunts. Stunts will always be a part of the game although, I have no idea how much Saleh will use them.

Think Justin Smith taking on two or three guys letting Aldon Smith have a clear shot at the QB. None of these guys is Justin...but that doesn't mean they aren't capable of being elite in their own way.

If you can two gap, you can perform a stunt. That's all Buckner, Armstead, Jones, etc. did in college. And it's more about angles and technique than strength (per se). Justin just happened to have incredible strength and could tie up two on the regular on that alone...but he also had great technique (holding, LOL) and angles too. The dude knew exactly what he was doing (wily veteran) allowing a guy like Aldon to reap the benefits and glory.

He was one of a kind! The only DL I ever saw put an arm around the OG and push both the OG and the OT out of the way for a LB. Neither Buckner or Armstead have that kind of strength but they have more height and greater reach. The thing we don't know...do either (or Thomas) have that knack to make a game saving play when necessary?
Justin Smith was a monster.

I think the additions of Elvis and Thomas along with the scheme change are going to do wonders for AA. I think after Buckner he's going to be our most productive DL this season.

The word productive is what make things tricky in your post but I know what you mean. I agree with you and think Buckner is the key here, if he can become an animal and become the focus point of the DL it'lol make everyone else's job EVEN FURTHER easier and give them more chances to make plays.

I'll double that. It goes two ways. I've said it before, the OL is really something to get excited about...but it is the un-sexy DL...no make that entire front 7... that I cannot wait to see. Each one...Buck...AA...Solomon..will make the other better. I thot that might work with Buck and AA...but by the time they started to compliment one another, Arik was out, hurt. Now tho, we got 3 studs, which will be a load...but on passing downs...The Dums ,also. Goodlawdamighty...can you even imagine being on the other side of that line and facing what they could bring? It won't be rain...it be thoonder n' lightning.

It has the potential to be electric to watch.

On base downs, imagine both Buckner and Armstead crashing in both Tackles to collapse the pocket with Thomas busting through in the interior. Or AA crashing in the line occupying 2 with Thomas looping around him for a sack.

Then after dealing with brut force and power, in comes the NASCAR package in rotation with players like Armstead, Buckner, Blair, Mitchell, etc. rushing from the inside...

...and players like Carradine, Thomas, Elvis, Brooks, Lynch, Harold, etc. rushing off the edges.

...from 1 gap attacking to stunts, this front 7 has the chance to be very versatile and equally effective against the run and in pass rush.

This frees up Reid/Tartt (box), Bowman, Smith/Foster, and our slot CB and long outside CB's to also add physical, instinctive play and even add some blitz packages themselves.

We could be good.

AA is part of our great future.

Lets hope he keeps progressing.

Imagine Reid/Tartt (box), Bowman, Smith/Foster, and our slot CB and long outside CB's all blitzing.

It would be carnage for any QB.
Defo just said Armstead is down 15 lbs.

side note: Defo is massive.

Not surprised.. Ive said he was around that weight for how long now
Correct Weight.

AA is gonna be the big improver and the beast we need to consume what Elvis gives us.

I am not talking about burgers.

I am talking about gaps based on Elvis being double teamed.

How is Elvis going to be double teamed from the leo? That's the point of an under front: all the guys on the backside get one-on-one matchups.
Depends on the offensive formation.
