We should be clear. This is his move not theirs. He packed his own bag.

Not wanting a pay cut is understandable

A team will definitely pick him up

How much you think a team is willing to pay him is the better question. I'm thinking it's not what he's thinking

AA is the 3rd highest paid player on the team. His cap hit this year will be $28 mil. No matter what you think of him, he's not the 3rd best player on the team. Not even close. Even if he was healthy and played every game he's not worth $28 mil.

He was.

If he was then why are we in this situation? You think just because of injury?

His health issues and his age. They won't save much this year but they can't keep paying a player like him that much money. They have several players that are better and will be up for salary increases in the coming years. He's making twice as much as Bosa.

Am I right?

Correct

But usually if you are cut, you aren't returning to the original team. Some team is going to pay him.

How much do you think a team is going to pay him? Definitely not close to that 28mil

The $28M is just his cap hit not really what he's getting paid this yr. The reason it's so high is because they restructured his deal in previous years. Base salary converted to a signing bonus which is prorated over a couple years. The signing bonus is cash he got when the restructure happened.
Tough decision. But this is a Walsh type move. You get rid of a player a year before you should. Hopefully this creates enough cap room to make a move or for aiyuk.

True but he still has the 3rd highest salary at $17 mil plus a signing bonus of $3.5 mil. That puts him over $20 mil.

This. He's not worth missing 4-5 games a season at that price.

Is it worth it to cut him leaving us with two defensive tackles? One who gets tired on the field and the other hasn't done jack in 3 years because of injuries. Both of them are undersized as well.

It's very likely these names getting tossed around here are going to get swooped up somewhere else. Then what the f*** we going to do?

draft IDL with our first rounder when there's a dangerous playmaker sitting at that spot like last time, duh

We've been playing the last few seasons like that with him on IR. Or have you now paid attention?

Not sure what you're referring to. We had seven defensive tackles going into 2022.

He was already paid his signing bonus when he restructured. That's a cap figure only. Not real money.

They're gonna sign someone (possibly two guys) and draft someone with one of those 11 picks. Going a little cheaper at IDL and putting more cash at DE.
I'm curious to see what kind of offers he's going to get as a FA.

The $17 million salary is real though right? That's still the 3rd highest on the team.
