Let's see what happens when AA doesn't have Buck containing 2 OL all the time. Man I hope the pass rush miraculously holds up

How much more do you think DeFo was doubled than Armstead? The difference I think was less than 50, like 260 doubles for DeFo compared to 210 for AA. Teams were forced to double AA a ton also.
Teams weren't going to offer as much for Armstead as they did for Buckner.
Hopefully Armstead's performance won't drop like Aldon's did without Justin Smith.
At least this wasn't a Haley deal, and dealt to a rival team to come back and haunt them for years.

I'm not sure. It seemed like Buck was always fighting either a double from the OL or an OL and FB/RB tandem. I feel like he was very rarely 1 V 1. Does anyone have the actual #S?

Were you only born in 2019?

I find it funny guys are still pushing 'contract year' like that make any sense anymore. Every year is a contract year since contracts aren't fully guaranteed. But whatever fits certain posters narrative I guess.

That and he was terrific in 2018 as well. Any fan could see his development coming to fruition then and 2019 only validated it.

There's a tweet bouncing around somewhere in both AA and DeFos thread about it. I'm not gonna sit here and act like I'm reading advanced stats myself lol.

Yup, you notice how it's the same trolls trashing him that were also trashing DeFo (the guy they now can't live without) after 2017 when he didn't put up sexy stats.

Anyone who was trashing Defo was an idiot.

Fellas, no need for indirect insults to discuss the topic.
My perspective on this:

AA took a few years to groom and we are about to see what his ceiling is. So pay him since he is cheaper.

Defo out of the gate was an all pro. Now he gets paid like one. We got his great production on a rookie contract.

Often teams draft a great player and when he comes due to be paid, other teams will pay. I feel it's better to draft well and let a player walk when he gets too expensive. Replace him with a rookie for cheap, and hope for the same or better production.

We have AA and Ford on big contracts. Draft a rookie to replace Defo. When the rookie and Bosa are due for extensions, it will be about time for AA and Ford to come off the books.

Not saying we HAVE to get a rookie DL, maybe we have what we need on the roster already. Still cheaper than what Defo warranted.

AA isn't a one year wonder. If he stays healthy, we will be glad we kept him.

Here is a breakdown of the cap hit by year:

2020: $6M
2021: $12.5M
2022: $20M
2023: $21.74M
2024: $23.26M
2025: $18.5M (Voids on 5th day of waiver claim which is after the Super Bowl)

Armstead will receive $34.15 million in full guarantees and $45.85 in total guarantees. No matter how you slice it, it's a team-friendly deal. Armstead also has a $7.5 million option bonus that will be prorated from 2021-25. That's why the cap numbers above work out the way that they do. In short, it's a three-year deal. The 49ers can get out after Year 2 if the option bonus is exercised, and that would mean $6.65 of his base salary is guaranteed instead of $14.15 million.

It's a super team-friendly deal. To me, this looks like a 3 year 38m dollar contract with an average of >13m a year.

Thoughts on AA as a 3tech? Since that will probably his main position now, getting less snaps at DE. Can he hold up to double team run blocks on the inside?

All 10 of his sacks did come between the T's even when lined up at W9.

W9 calls for smaller 250-260 speed rushers because of the distance to close, angle to seal the edge and speed to power for smaller ends. AA's only real weakness playing on the edge even as far wide as 9, was RB's and QB's still getting outside him because he's so tall and laterally, too slow to catch up to mobile QB's esp.
