The odds that a rookie interior defensive linemen comes into the league and replicates Defo's production are not good. The reality is that most IDL don't become great pass rushers.
I have no clue how they're going to fill that void. Pray Dee Ford plays 16 games?
Exactly, too many fans foolishly thinking that a rookie DL draft pick fills the void of a pro-bowl 5-year veteran?? lol Not very likely, indeed.
You are aware even with Buckner and his 800+ snaps a year, this defense was still giving up over 1,800 yards rushing a year and 4.5 ypc right? That's NOT good. And did it affect any wins or losses at all? Nope.
I'm willing to bet no matter who or how Kocurek plugs 3T and 2i, it won't be any worse than this. Why? Because it's a passing league. Finding pluggers inside isn't hard.
Where we're going to miss him most is in sacks and QB pressures and leadership. But when you're taking over 800+ snaps, it's hard to also bring a pass rush on top of that. Therefore, it's going to have to be a committee...but that committee should be more fresh which is why I don't anticipate much, if any, dropoff from overall production.
We can revisit this stance in a year.
