He's gone as d-coordinator but perhaps Fangio could still be had as a head coach. Not that I think York would do it but an apology and promotion could smooth things over quick. Maybe he's not a great head coach but seeing what he could have done with the current d would have made the evaluation process easier.

Why would he come back here as a HC? He will get a HC gig somewhere else. If I were him I'd go elsewhere and beat the tar out of the 9ers every meeting.

I agree, I don't think he would have any interest either. I'm just saying that because he is still just a coordinator, technically that ship hasn't completely sailed.

If Fangio left for ego, he wont be coming back but $3.5M is a nice starting salary AND if it really was Jed who overruled Baalke, I'm sure Baalke and him are still tight and if he got some reassurance that Jed learned his lesson, he might reconsider. Where else is he going to even get an interview for a HC job?

He had a top 5 defense here for 4 years and never got a legit sniff (except by us). It's possible (and I love the guy) but some guys are just seen as better coordinators. But we'll see. For him, I hope he gets a shot somewhere!

I miss watching Fangio/Donatell's Quarters scheme so much. I don't care if he never blitzes. Watching Mangini's "confuse everyone on the field" zone defense is boring.

Agree.

And the Bears have a total lack of talent on D. They were horrible the first few games, and have gradually improved. I enjoyed watching them play in GB. Sure, it was raining, they could have lost easily, but they didn't. In GB. Kudos to Fangio.

Makes sense. At the time, he did mention to the papers that FOs call you about being HC, not the other way around. He understood that opportunities don't come around often.

I get the sense that the two FO conditions that chased off Fangio and Gase were:
1. Tomsula gets promotion to DC (or some promotion)
2. Need to spend 2015 seeing if Kap is the guy

Going into 2016, #2 is already solved, so there's no need to play that game again. I guess the FO may still want Tomsula around in some role (and consider 2015 as the extended-interim caretaker year), so maybe that'll still be a point of contention.
Navorro Bowman wanted Vic Fangio for Head Coach all last January and the 49ers bypassed Bowman's wants for Jed's cheapass pocket and ego

LMAO. You do know Fangio or Gase would be paid the same as first-time time coaches, right? Only Harbaugh got paid at a higher than entry level and he had the largest and most expensive staff on the planet including secret consultants for Roman. Cheap?

Baseless arguments and self-serving agendas...round and round and round we go.

Agreed...I'm liking GeepLo + Gabbert (that's a full WCO) but no doubt, if the rumors were true that Jed (Tomsula) overruled Baalke (Gase), Jed needs to be punched in the face esp. if Paraag was involved in that decision as well.

That said, my only hope is that Jed learned his lesson and will now defer to Baalke 100% going forward and Baalke will only use Paraag for contracts (brilliant) and metrics to help ID players such as Draughn, Cox, Celek, Cromartie, etc. off the streets.

Truth. His uncle made a sh!tload of mistakes as well but nobody is going to remember that when you bring in Bill Walsh. Let's hope Jed has half that intelligence.

Singletary
Nolan
Tomsula
All great position coaches but crappy head coaches.

You can't predict great head coaching from a position coach.
