RB Carlos Hyde Thread

I'm not buying the Carlos Hyde hype. He's already been in the league for 3 seasons and one of those to watch one of the best ever (Gore is a beast) and he hasn't been 100% motivated to have his best year until now? Not even to be the best but to have his best year. Now? In his contract year? The warning signs should be apparent.

Hyde just doesn't seem like a leader of a team or he would have acted like a leader the past couple of years. He has no excuse not to be since he has been one of the older players on this team.

To be fair his biggest issues have been injuries and poor run blocking. Gore is an all time great but the oline he was running behind his last season here didn't include the Martin-Devey-Pears combo like Hyde dealt with his first season as a starter. Hyde has never once blamed the o line for his problems and instead went out and was one of the best backs in the league in yards after contact the past two years. That's not even including the lack of a passing threat the last two years. Nowhere have I seen a lack of motivation while dealing with all of that and the coaching carousel he's seen while a niner. He's had all the reasons in the world to make excuses but never has, thats what leaders do. He may very well be the best player on offense, he knows he needs to stay healthy and that's likely what he means and one of the reasons he showed up in excellent shape.

He's the best offensive player we have, if our line can open some holes up, he will be tearing it up this year.

I think he will get a lot of reception this year also. He always had good hands out of the backfield.

Grant Cohn carries an agenda. He'll say anything to support his agenda.He jumped on the Joe Williams band wagon early and he refuses to get off even though Carlos Hyde is playing lights out football right now

The dude just picks a new player/coach every week to s**t on to cause controversy. First it was Kyle for not overseeing the defense, then McDonald, then Lynch, then Bowman, now Hyde. Pure comedy at this point. Is Staley over the hill now too?

But then he predicts we'll be 9-7.

He was on pace for like 1200+ yards before the injury last season.

I'm not sure where the complaints are coming. Hyde has quietly gone out and done his job. Last year by many measures he was one of the better RB's in football, 5th in DVOA, 6th in DYAR, one of the best in yards after contact and one of the top backs in expected yards per carry. He significantly outperformed the weak OL that was in front of him. He's one of those rare RB's that can consistently produce yards on his own, irrespective of his OL, he'll find ways to make positive gains.

His issue isn't talent or lack of performance, it has simply been staying healthy, when he's been healthy he has played pretty well. That is my one and only concern with him.

1200 ain't what it used to be.

Hyde was hit or miss depending on how much he was banged up. Very inconsistent.

2 games where he gained less than 40 yards on 13/14 carries.
7th game of the year he gained 14 yards on 13 carries against Arz.

75 ypg = 1200
he was under that mark 6 of 13 games last year

94 ypg = 1500
he only had more than that twice last year

Hopefully he can finish his first full season in the league.

I'm not on the Hyde hype train.

Better to often just keep reloading through the draft or find cheap deals in FA. Is he worth the $4-5 million he will probably be seeking? He hasn't proven it so far.

Maybe this guy just needs more free tattoos and hookers?
