"He ranked 9th in the NFL in yards per rushing attempt for RB's with 700 yards or more."
9th out of 24. That's not even the top third.

Now factor in the offenses he's been in.
From what I have noticed, it seems like the majority of the players who have played in Kyle's system have had career years.
Damn, Kyle is a boss.

Fair enough. I think Hyde is a very good player but I don't agree with the people that are pumping him up as an elite running back. If he can become one, great. I am all for it.

He definitely has top 5 talent. Also factor in the QB who's passing didn't strike any fear in defensive game plans.
I just hope Hyde shows that he can stick that foot and burst upfield in the zone.

Now factor in how often he got mauled behind the line of scrimmage due to the 32nd ranked run blocking unit and playing out of the shotgun and with no fullback.
With all of that included it's pretty amazing that he did as well. Compare his results to DeMarco Murray in Philly a season before and what he looked like moving to Tennessee this past season.

@ Joecool: you say Hyde is a top 5 talent and then say, "just hope Hyde shows that he can stick that foot and burst upfield in the zone." And since the thread is about whether Hyde fits in Shanahan's offense, it sounds like you aren't sure.
@ Phoenix49ers: I am not sure why you are comparing DeMarco Murray to Hyde. Murray has had three 1000+ yard seasons including one of over 1800 yards. Hyde doesn't even have 1800 yards rushing, total. It's not like Hyde was amazing the previous year and then had a down year under Chip Kelly. I do understand that Hyde hasn't had perfect circumstances, for sure.

I think you missed my point entirely.
Murray was incredible successful.....in Dallas, playing behind a beastly OL. He went to Philly and struggled immensely in Kelly's offense running behind a so so OL. He went to Tennessee, running behind a top notch OL and looked far more like the guy he was in Dallas than when he was playing for the Eagles.
Murray does well behind quality OL's in schemes that fit his ability.
Murray struggled tremendously behind a so-so OL in Chip Kelly's offense.
Hyde looked far better than Murray did playing behind a terrible OL in Chip Kelly's offense.

If he can stay healthy he is elite. If he had played all 16 games and kept his average yards per game he would have had more than 1200 yards. This would make him the 8th running back in the league in rushing yards.

Okay, that makes it a bit more clear.
Hyde's yards per attempt in Chip Kelly's offense were actually the highest of his three year career.
"Murray does well behind quality OL's in schemes that fit his ability." Do you think that Shanahan's scheme fit's Hyde's ability?

Which is why his season was so impressive. 4.6 yards a carry in a fairly predictable run offense with poor run blocking, almost 70% of his yards coming after contact. That is insane.

Absolutely. Its the best scheme fit that he's played in yet in the NFL which is why I expect him to do very well once the OL issues get straightened out. He excels in the outside zone, he was a monster running it in college, coming into the draft he was considered as an ideal fit for just such a scheme.

You are very confident about it. I hope you are correct. Of course he also has to stay healthy too, which you already made a point about.
