There's one aspect to this move that can save the 49ers money. Hypothetical situation: Suppose Staley or ADavis go down with an extended injury and the OL shuffle had to take place where Boone slides to Tackle, with Looney coming in at Guard. When it comes time to negotiate an extension with Boone, he may want to be paid like a tackle. That's what his agent might tell him, "Wait for UFA. Get teams to pay you like a LT".
When Staley went down vs the Rams (week 13), Boone held his own versus RQuinn. Tackles get paid more than guards so Boone may use it as leverage to get more money. He may want to leave the 49ers and play tackle. If JMartin can hold down the backup tackle spot, this OL shuffle doesn't have to happen where Boone plays tackle (Boone's contract ends after the 15-16 season). 49ers save cap space and retain Boone. Win.

Martin is just a plain and simple great move:
-Only a 7th rounder which is a waste of a pick for us.
- Knows Harbaugh's system.
-he will see the weight room
-starting caliber back up T/G
-puts pressure on soon to be free agent starters to possibly stay

Excellent signing.
Getting a swing lineman for both Tackle positions and potentially Guard positions for a 7th round pick is DYNAMITE!
In addition he can come in on all the Jumbo packages that Kilgore came in for.
JH/Roman know all his strengths & weaknesses. They know how to communicate with him and motivate him - again keep in mind a 7th round pick who will be a contributor from day 1.
This is the depth we didn't have last year and we can still [will] pick up another OLine player[s] in the draft.

Not a waste of pick.
Just like with Gabbert, having spent a draft pick on him means we don't reduce our Comp for losing FAs.

Tremendous pick-up.
Now we have a reliable back-up OT.

He is the swing tackle who come in as an extra lineman too, essentially taking the roles of both Snyder and Kilgore and is young and still developing. I could care less what happened in Miami, if Harbaugh wants him and has coached him, he will be fine in their locker room. He is the swing tackle who come in as an extra lineman too.

I meant it is usually a waste if we use it to draft someone at this time. With so may picks, it is a benefit to use it on someone who has a legitimate chance to make the final 53.

6th for a great wide out, a 6th for a qb who is young and can only improve in our system and a 7th for a much needed OL guy who has nfl experience, can multitask and the coaches know him well. what a good job our team in making clever use of low round draft picks
