Granted, he's older and near the end, but Boldin has been far more valuable to the team and Crabs has done nothing to show he should earn bigger dollars. If that changes this season, then yes, a reevaluation is in order. Until then, all talk of an astronomical contract is premature.
Crabs was a HUGE part to us even making it to the Super Bowl. Had he not gotten hurt he would be set to make as much as Djax and Brown.
Most here were calling Crabtree a bust until he connected well with Kap. I also would like Kap to not use Crabtree as much. Especially this year with influx of talent.

He would have wanted to, but not gotten it.
In 5 years he can't manage to escape the "what if" factor.
I really hope he doesn't ask for the bank because I really want him to stay on our team

Agree with this.

I have absolutely no idea what Crabtree wants to do or what his agent wants.
If anyone knows this I would appreciate getting the information, but please include links for the information.

I do not think that Crabtree is particularly injury prone.

Crabtree missed 5 games his rookie year because of his holdout.
He missed 11 regular season games last year because of his torn Achilles.
But, his recovery from that torn Achilles was remarkably fast.
In 2010, 2011, and 2012, he missed one regular season game---one out of 48 games.

I am not sure if anyone is claiming that Crabtree is an elite wide receiver.

I would not classify him as elite.

In five years, Crabtree has 279 receptions for 3,629 yards and 22 touchdowns.
He has had over 1,000 receiving once---in 2012.

Prior to his Achilles injury, Crabtree had improved every season, and that is a positive.

The chances of the team overpaying him are slim and none.
Baalke and the front office have clearly demonstrated that they do not and will not overpay a free agent.

If he remains a 49er, he remains a 49er. If he goes, he goes.

I do not really have a strong opinion of what should happen.

I am very interested in what he will do next year.

Other Than holding out his rookie year Crabtree has not done anything on or off the field to be labeled a Diva. We really don't know what this guy is really about since he seems really shy and quiet. I just hope he remains a Niner.

I agree.

The holdout was a long time ago and he stays out of the media spotlight.

Divas tend to like being in the media spotlight.

I know you don't pay on "what ifs" but he had over 1,000 yards and 85 catches with Kap as a start for 1/2 the year and had 285 yds 3TD and 20 catches in the playoffs when he was healthy. I read in another thread if he had Kap all year his numbers avg out to 1,500 yds and 13TD, those are pretty good numbers. He is a much better player than Danny Amendola (hasn't missed as many games, is bigger, and blocks well) and should be paid better. I feel we have Q for $6 million for one more year until we have to sign Crab, why not take that money and throw it towards Crabs new deal? We back-end Crabs deal so we are not strapped with Q, Johnson, and Crabs contracts. Q leaves after 2015 and we have Johnson and Crabs then Patton and Ellington for WR 3 duties.

I think a deal similar to Johnson's contact is fair and Marshall signing his extension only helps us he getting a deal done with Crabs at a better price

Who has said that Crabtree is an elite receiver?

Has anyone said that Crabtree is an elite receiver?

I know right. look right now this is who overthecap.com says is UFA next season + their 2014 cap # -- Bolded names are players that I'd place in the top 2 tiers of WRs (Those that would sign within 2 weeks of FA opening

Brandon Marshall Bears $11,194,750 - Brandon got a $10M per year deal - Definitely the ceiling for most of the bolded receivers if not all of them.
Roddy White Falcons $8,544,000 - I think he retires or re-signs with ATL for a reduced rate
Wes Welker Broncos $6,000,000
Reggie Wayne Colts $5,833,333 - Same thing with Wayne as with White
Jeremy Maclin Eagles $5,500,000
Michael Crabtree 49ers $5,333,333
Nate Washington Titans $4,466,667
Jordy Nelson Packers $4,200,000
Hakeem Nicks Colts $4,000,000 - Only if he plays all 16 games and has an incredible year
Eddie Royal Chargers $3,500,000
Demaryius Thomas Broncos $2,830,100
Dez Bryant Cowboys $2,362,100
Miles Austin Browns $2,000,000

Damian Williams Dolphins $760,000
Jacoby Ford Jets $740,000
Kyle Williams Chiefs $740,000
David Reed 49ers $730,000
Brian Robiskie Titans $730,000
Earl Bennett Browns $730,000

Joe Morgan Saints $495,000

The question is are any of the bolded names worth "Brandon Marshall money"?? Which of them will be franchised? Can any of those bolded names be had for a modest price?

Then look at the sample of potential 2015 list of prospects, seniors and underclassmen....

Amari Cooper
Nelson Agholor
Jaelon Strong
DeVante Parker
Stefon Diggs
Rashad Greene
Dorial Green-Beckham (he's a headcase but he has AJ Green talent)
Ty Montgomery

I'm pretty sure no WR is going to get "paid" this year unless it is by a team that wants a veteran WR for the QB they are going to draft in the top 10.

If we let Crabtree walk or Boldin retired.....Imagine if we could get our hands on Torrey Smith....

This one is written by David Fucillo? In it he claims his "sources" tell him that we might not match Crabtree's FA tag next year. (not sure how reliable this guy is)
http://www.ninersnation.com/2014/5/8/5693490/michael-crabtree-contract-rumors-2014-nfl-draft

Sources also tell me the Niners may not want to meet Michael Crabtree's price tag in free agency next March

This was all I could pull on the agent talks, getting it done earlier is usually a good sign
http://www.ninersnation.com/2014/4/28/5662128/49ers-have-spoken-with-michael-crabtrees-agent-about-contract

The more I start researching this, the more I think we are going to sign Crabs to a 1-2 year deal worth 7-8 mil.
It makes sense.

This website is complete speculation, but they brought up some good points
http://nfl.si.com/2014/05/12/michael-crabtree-contract-extension-san-francisco-49ers/

The 49ers didn't trade up. In fact, they didn't draft a wideout until the fourth round [Bruce Ellington]. But they traded for veteran Stevie Johnson, who is signed through the next three seasons at salaries that are lower – perhaps significantly lower – than what Crabtree will want. The bottom line: The 49ers' trade for Johnson may signal that they don't intend to sign Michael Crabtree to a long-term extension.

Thanks. Interesting reads, but it seems safer to wait and see what happens.

How does Baalke see this? Maybe this might give some insight (maybe not).

Here is every WR we have drafted since '97 (15+ years):

Bruce Ellington
Quinton Patton
A.J. Jenkins
Ronald Johnson
Kyle Williams
Michael Crabtree
Josh Morgan
Jason Hill
Brandon Williams
Rasheed Marshall
Marcus Maxwell
Rashaun Woods
Derrick Hamilton
Brandon Lloyd
Arnaz Battle
Cedrick Wilson
Tai Streets
Ryan Thelwell

Not many of these picks makes us proud. In fact if you are Baalke, how do you have confidence in your scouting team in the WR position?
I believe it will be a long time before we use a 1st round pick on a WR. But, how do you let Crabtree go? He is clearly the best out of these. And clearly, we haven't had many "hits", so the one we do have we let him go?

If I'm Baalke, I point out to my counterpart (Harbaugh), if you want to retain him next year, we can't have him have him put up super numbers. The more we spread the ball around, the lesser numbers he will have to negotiate a big contract. Get Kap off using him so much.

Someone might have but most of us know he isn't. He is a very good receiver, but not elite. He however is our best WR and he probably thinks he is on par with the elite receivers in the game, even though the stats say otherwise. This sounds like a text book Baalke situation. If Marshall makes $ 10 million per, Baalke will offer Crabtree $8 - 8.5 million per long term and say "take it or leave it". If he stays, good for us. If not, the Niners will use that money to lock up someone else.
