Using current statistics for just TE's via NFL.com

Ranked 32 in catches. Ranked 21 in Yards. Ranked 20th in Yards per game. In a statistic that TE's are usually judged on....1st down percentage ranked 55 in the NFL. He only has 13 first downs total this season. The only top ten number he's really managed is ypc. He's not a guy who is going to fight for a ball, especially in the end zone like Jimmy Graham or Gronk and yet he's getting paid that kind of money.

650 yards over the past 16 games essentially playing without any other receiving option. He's nothing special. Barely average. But it's not that bad of a deal.

the ONLY thing that worries me is his ablity (inability) to avoid nagging injuries... its like he finds a way to get injuried too often.

Pass over the middle.. jumps falls down.... looks injuried.

gets hit going out of bounds.... looks injuried.

so if he can some how improve SOMETHING where his body can take these NFL hits.... man he could be something.

And don't forget the 1 in 5 passes he drops...it's hard to keep a drive alive like that.

Graham is on a 4 year 40 million contract that had a $12 mil signing bonus and almost $21 mil gtd

Gronk is on a 6 year 54 million contract with 8 mil signing bonus and 13 mil gtd

Both of these dudes signed their contracts a few years ago and we all know how quickly contract values goes up

Where are some of you getting this 700 yard crap? I guess we now just tally up multi season stats together to come up with a respectable single season #. Give me a break. I was fine signing him back but the amount he just received is ludicrous

Anyone else remember how much Eric Johnson balled in the exact same scenario. 650 as the only option isn't very good. If we had a real qb and weapons that would negate his production because they'd be throwing to better options.

He's an okay starter who we slightly overpaid.
