What exactly is falling apart? Can you give us an example other than the TMZ report that Harbaugh and Baalke are having a scuffle?

Debartolo fired Walsh half a dozen times and had to be talked out of it. Only difference is the internet wasn't around back then to stir up drama in the media.

good job york,, you deny it and now you fudge and say there was contact. the coverup is always more inept than the crime and this is a great example. why did he not just say it in the first place . I really thought when york took over we would not have the type of drama we had before he took over. If i were JH i would hit the road as it sounds like they do not want him. i still love this team but the things they do just make you wonder if they just go looking for trouble

Yep, it looks like York has now been forced to back peddle a bit from his initial statement. I wonder how much farther the will have to go.

I don't agree with this. It's semantics, but I think York was truthful.

He and Harbs said that the Florio report was wrong. It was. York did not say that there was NO contact, just that PFT's "spin" was wrong.

York then clarified via his comments to P King.

So much this. PFT did not publish my comment this morning...for the life of me, I cannot figure out why...

Methinks you put too much faith in a Browns owner being investigated by the Feds Mr. Florio.

Most of this entire story is semantics. Anything to drive up views, I guess.

Something tells me Lombardi is your source but it is largely irrelevant at this point since you are seemingly intent on proving you are right.

MODED.

From a Barrows blog article:
Asked why he initially offered a flat denial of the PFT story, York said it's because the story wasn't true. The original story said the two sides nearly pulled off a trade for Harbaugh and that it was Harbaugh who ultimately decided not to leave the 49ers.

Welp, the organization is officially falling apart. I knew this was all too good to be true.

the overreactors commeth
I read the Kawakami article from December, and it was a huge reach.

For example, he suggested that Harbaugh saying "pay the man" when asked about Goldson/Dawson was a veiled jab at Baalke through the media. Give me a break! Harbaugh gives glorified praise to every player he's asked about (Crabtree? "best hands ever". AJ Jenkins? "Going to make reporters look stupid when he breaks out." etc...). How would you expect the guy to reply? Say, "uh, Goldson is good, but I don't think he's worth a huge contract. Who doesn't Harbaugh love publicly? Every player is the greatest all-time at his position when described by Harbaugh in a public setting. He trolls the media. That's what he does.

If there's truth to Harbaugh/Baalke only communicating through email, that's a huge concern. But it's hard to believe that. One things for sure though.... it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.

There are 2 organizations in football that will just throw money against the wall and hope something sticks; the Redskins and Cowboys. Are they the sort of team we want to be modeled after? Harbaugh has 2 more years on his deal, and an extension will get done. The way I see it is if the GM and coach aren't willing to fight for what they believe in and think they deserve then they're probably just pushovers that we don't want anyway. As fans we get wrapped up in a "sign every elite player or coach at any cost" mentality, but these people are paid a lot of money to keep emotions out and do what's right for both the short and long term of the team. Should they just pay Fangio whatever he wants too because he's proven to be a top 3 defensive coordinator in the league, or is there a breaking point where Marathe and Baalke say no way? There's nothing wrong with them disagreeing on compensation or power, and all it'll come down to is who bends more to the other's side to make the deal happen.
Okay, I think we agree with each other more than we both think. I agree with a lot of what you're saying.

All I'm saying is that I keep seeing/hearing these reports of, "York loves Harbaugh, but he's hesitant to give him Super Bowl-money when he's never won a Super Bowl." That's rubbish to me. Winning the Super Bowl is tough and rare, yes. But making the championship game in your first three years of coaching isn't just rare, it's unprecedented. He's worth Super Bowl money. He should be payed like an elite coach.

Maybe it is just run-of-the-mill negotiation tactics by both sides, and they both genuinely know they're going to work something out. Let me again emphasize that my main point of contention is York holding no Super Bowls against Harbaugh. What he's accomplished is just as impressive as winning it all in many respects.

I don't believe the issue in contract talks is money. Money is the easiest to address: give Harbaugh $7M/yr (which is what 2 of the other NFC West coaches make) and add a clause that guarantees him to be the highest paid NFL coach in any year he wins the Super Bowl. So in 2016 when Jerry Jones has hired himself as HC making $15M/yr, Harbaugh would get a $8M bonus for winning the SB.

The issue must be control. Harbaugh probably wants more say in personnel.

I don't blame him b/c Baalke has not done well. The 2012 draft was a complete bust. 2013 might turn out ok. 2011 was very good. The grade probably averages out to a "C", which is tough when Seattle has drafted "A" or "A+".

Finally, re: David Shaw, as a Stanford fan and 49er fan I have mixed feelings. He would be an awful hire for the 49ers. Just watch any of the 3 bowl games he coached. That said, the 49ers job is the only one that could pry him away from Stanford. So he would ruin the 49ers but give Stanford a shot at potentially hiring someone better. That's why I have mixed feelings. Stanford might mis-hire Shaw's replacement, so probably best Shaw stays there. Make no mistake though, Shaw WOULD leave Stanford for the 49ers. When asked about the NFL he once explained that none of the NFL cities are better than Palo Alto, so he couldn't convince his wife to move. With the 49ers he would not have to move his family. It's the only NFL job that would make sense for him, and every HC wants to prove himself at the NFL level.

Take a moment to actually read this article by media hack Jason la Canfora. There isn't one specific citation. There are no names. There aren't any specific, you know, facts. It's simply all innuendo based on un-named sources of gossip and filled with what people in the journalism business call "weasel words" - "I'm told"; "sources say"; "some wondered..."

Who told you, what sources and who wonders? Jason can't say... Niner fans, Jim Harbaugh has just finished the third year of a five year contract. The soonest most five year contracts ever get reworked is usually in the fourth year. You don't rework a five year contract half way though the contract. So, this contract will probably be reworked at some point this year. I'm guessing it gets reworked well before next season.
This whole stupid scenario reminds me of this:

A look back at Harbaugh family history :

John to father Jack - "Dad, it looks like we got to move. Jim's run outta friends again"
