The most ironic thing is Harbaugh preaches keeping things in house and cuts people for conduct detrimental to the team if they don't. But he's playing the media to the max to get his contract extension. And if he doesn't he's going to be the most in demand coach when he's free.

I thought the same thing. Agent blows a story out of nowhere so he and his client get more monies. It's a win for the Browns too. All they have to do is nod and agree to make the Owner look good. Make him look like he's trying. No specifics just say we tried.

No way Jim wants to coach the Browns who would now be missing a ton of picks and talent to boot. Then you factor in playing against his brother twice a year I don't think that's reality.

How would instigating or leaking this story to the press help Harbaugh in his discussions with the team?

Because the fans start to get angry, and York has to make a move to show that theres nothing wrong. A Harbaugh extension would calm people down.

Right now York has his entire fanbase getting restless. Hes trying to open a new stadium next year. The last thing he needs is his fans being unsure about the future.

Yup This would be a good time to extend and shut everyone up?

I am not so sure that Jed York bases his contract negotiations on public opinion.

If Harbaugh were instigating this media mess, it could well end up biting him on the butt.

What are the chances the head brass waits until next offseason to extend/trade harbaugh? May they let him play out his 4th year, see what happens and move from on from there? Chances are Niners make another deep run so you either pay the man or wait to see if and team will 1-up what Cleveland offered?

49ers are in the drivers seat. They have the players, Harbaugh has it's tactics. Jim can't take our players to another team.

There was a persistent rumble throughout the combine about the extent of the rift between coach Jim Harbaugh and the team's front office. It doesn't seem like it will go away, and there is increasing buzz that the team might have to decide between Harbaugh or GM Trent Baalke.

The men are barely speaking, I'm told, and almost all communication is through email. Harbaugh also has a strained relationship with team president Paraag Marathe, sources said, and he has clashed with many within the organization.

i think this story is filled with a lot of b******t, that aside i'm starting to wonder if harbaugh is like a parcells of larry brown in the nba where he never stays 1 place too long

Without question I'd rather have Bill Belichick and it's not even close.

Look, Jim deserves a Top 5 pay day but this assumption that Jim played defense, offense or special teams and led us to 3 Title Games is hilarious. I have yet to see Jim perform a miracle job like Belichick has done with his revolving door secondary. Alex Smith did fine in KC and our WR revolving door has been abysmal. If Lattimore doesn't pan out then put the RBs right up there as well.

Let's celebrate Jim and the team but be honest with ourselves: For 3 straight years we have had a TOP 3 roster.

easy to say you'd rather have the hoody now, after 3 sb wins and a certain hall of fame career. just curious how much tooting of his horn would you have given him after his 1st 3 seasons in cleveland? that team was hyped quite a bit back then and never came through.

Based on what? Hes never changed teams without it being a promotion.
